I just remembered another scene. Rami Malek in Need For Speed. His extended strip down while quitting his corporate job would not have been the same had he kept his undies on. Full nudity was the only way to play it. Inside and outside on the street.
What was the significance of him stripping when he quit?

I did notice that they only showed the rear typical of PG-13 movies.
My wife complained once that she was tired of seeing so many naked backsides in PG-13 movies.
I told her that if she watched more R rated movies she would get a different view.
She did not appreciate the humor.
I keep looking for that movie where nudity is treated as normal and natural.I did notice that they only showed the rear typical of PG-13 movies. My wife complained once that she was tired of seeing so many naked backsides in PG-13 movies.I told her that if she watched more R rated movies she would get a different view. She did not appreciate the humor.
I think Hollywood avoids normalizing nudity, because as long as nudity is not normalized, it sells theater tickets.
I keep waiting for the moving in which at least one character is merely nude and no one bats an eye. "It's just Bob, he's nude, whatever."
I remember Jean m-Hugues Anglade was frequently nude in Betty Blue. He and Batrice Dalle were dating at the time, so the intimacy between their characters was real.
Here in Europe were less hung-up on nudity in cinema. The exception is the UK, but its marginally better than the rest of the Anglosphere with its Victorian prudishness.

I watched a clip and he said that he did it to be sure he would never come back.
While I agree that full nude was the best way to do the scene, I doubt that he could have ever come back if he had stripped to his boxers and kissed one of the women on his way out!
I had such respect for Kathy Bates when she took it all off in "About Schmidt", a scene with her getting into a hot tub with Jack Nicholson. I'll bet few in her business would do that considering her large and in charge body style. I was floored and impressed - I bet most of the viewers (textilers) would complain and make some snide comment. Me, I gained a whole new respect for her and I already had a bunch. The weirder part is that I really found the movie to be marginal in general, but that scene did stick with me. Maybe I need to watch it again! One further point is - who in production is making the decision to include nudism to further the story line? Putting aside whether the bareness is for the story line or more to engage the viewer with sexual content, the insistence of including the skin showing could come from any direction. Unless the viewer is lucky enough to be watching the DVD with extra features and sees or hears the director, actor, or someone else on the production team talking about how the nudism came about, or got some outside information through the media, it is tough to know for whom to give the credit. Most of the actors being mentioned here are all svelte - let's hear about more movie moments where we get to see some normal bodies. And for the record, I thought Kathy looked beautiful!
It is good to see a older, larger actress or actor featured in a nude scene. Proves that nudity isn't only for young people in excellent physical shape.
I saw About Schmidt because it is one of the few movies that had an actuary as one of the primary characters, but I will agree that it only was marginally interesting overall. Having his wife die right after he retired was discomforting for both my wife and myself. I have now been retired 7 years so we are past that.
Two other movies that have actuaries in leading roles are Sweet Charity and Along Came Polly, both of which have actuaries comically nerdy, which is the reputation of the profession. In Along Came Polly, he is briefly nude near the end, as a sign of his change of personality.
Speaking of Kathy Bates reminded me of Failure to Launch with NFLs Terry Bradshaw and his naked room in the movie.
Well, this is my naked room. I mean, its my house. A man ought to be able to do whatever he wants to do in his own house. Wore a suit for forty years.
Another one that comes to mind is Midsommar (2019). According to IMDB, after the sex scene, Christian was supposed to run out in the robe he entered in but the actor suggested he run outside nude to appear more vulnerable.
