Beatified Pope John Paul II - Patron Saint of Nudists
Pope John Paul II has just been beatified by the Catholic Church. That is a step toward being formally declared to be a Saint. From his writings and teachings, it is apparent that he was supportive of the concept of a nude life style. I believe that it would now be appropriate for nudist groups worldwide to begin a petition drive to have the future St. John Paul II desiginated as the Patron Saint of Nudists. (For those who believe that this ideamight be toofar fetched, remember even prostitutes have a patron saint. i.e. St Nicolas.)

Thanks for the information, I have known of his support and have even a quote of his on my signature line.

That's the first thing I thought of when I heard about the effort to move him to sainthood. He was the best of the modern Popes IMHO.
Interesting and really ironic I hear of christian developments in places like here. Around 15 years ago in the heights of the gay issues in one of Canadas major churches I decided to take one year off participation in our church to think on the matter of that these folks had better things to think about besides bashing gay folks. I have only entered a couple christian facilities since and have paid no more attention to the happenings of the Pope. A day at an occasional nudist gathering seems to have much more spiritual benifit. I have read that for the most declaration of nude lifestyle for most means a good old time shunning job.

CheriDonna, Thanks for your input. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who had this thought. It is especially gratifing to know someone of your stature endorses this idea. DesertRat
This of course bears most relevance to Catholics, who have the Saints. Karol Wojtya aka John Paul II was a very controversial character, but he definitely honestly believed in what he did, so I understand deep respect many Catholics and non-Catholics show to him. Nevertheless there might be some broader conversation about his "patron saint" status as such decision would unavoidably bring out some dirtier skeletons from closets. In general I would be in favour of choosing a general "Patron" of nude lifestyle from history or mythology and Catholics of course could select one of their own eg. JP II as their Patron Saint.
Interesting idea to have JPII as a "patron saint of nudists".
I've also heard occasionally of that honor given to Saint Francis, whoas a young radical religious took all off his clothesin public and handed them back to his father, and thencommitted his life to simplicity and service. He insisted that whenhe died, he be buried naked.
So there's precedent, both modern and medieval, for understanding the relationship between holiness and nakedness -- and making the connection to simplicity. I like that JP also talks about the beauty and simplicity of the naked form.
