emergency

I have slept nude for nearly 5 decades now. So far I have not had to flee my bedroom for an emergency. I was wondering if there are those
out there who have been chased from their beds by a fire alarm or tornado siren or some other emergency.

I do try to keep my Crocs right beside my bed and my glasses on the night stand. I think I would slip on shoes and restore my eyesight before
I grabbed for clothes.

Any other thoughts about what to do if such a rude awakening occurred?

I generally keep a pair of shorts/pants with my wallet and keys in it by my bed as well as glasses and my cellphone. I have had a fireman knock on my door very loudly to tell me that the apartment was on fire above me. Thank God they got there quickly enough so there was not much damage to that apartment and none to mine. I could have lost everything. Very scary experience. I have a coworker friend who lost everything except the clothes he was wearing and his cellphone last year.

I keep shorts, wallet, glasses and car keys by my bed too, so I am ready for a warm weather emergency. Guess I would take the blanket too if it was cool.

I have awakened to hear an intruder in my hotel room. I lay there quietly for a while, thinking about what to do. I decided to bolt out of bed and startle him with shouting and gesticulation and (indeed) my nakedness. I lay there a bit longer to gather the energy, and then made my scene. As it happened, only the intruder saw me naked - he mumbled some excuse and ran away, and I had time to dress before I made my report.

I have awakened to find the FBI knocking on my door as I slept in the front room right next to the door. I picked up a blanket and held it around me with one hand while sliding the door open with the other. And then completed the interview wrapped in the same blanket.

I have awakened to hear some random stranger off the street charging through the hallways of my apartment building pounding on doors and yelling "fire." My partner and I got up and saw flames licking up outside our third-floor window. We did take a moment to pull on pants and a shirt. It was a cool night; neighbors were kind enough to bring out blankets while we sat and watched the firefighters work. (One person died; our place just had water damage and we were able to clean it up and stay on.)

Now youve got me paranoid about this! The only time it happened to me was back in college. The fire alarm in my dorm would go off in the middle of the night for no reason. I usually just put on underwear, as a lot of the guys did. Sometimes I just wrapped a towel around my waist. Back then I never worried about saving anything in case the alarm was real!

bout the hotel how would anyone be able to get into your room unless 1. you had the door opened and fixed for anyone to come in, or 2. it was an hotel worker that had a key.

bout the fire glad you didnt have any fire damage but sorry you had water damage that alone can be a big deal to get fixed but glad you didnt get hurt in it.

I worked for an airline for over 30 years and spent thousands of nights in hotel rooms. Ive been given keys to occupied rooms several times and have walked in on people before. Also have been walked in on a couple of times when I forgot to bolt the door. Front desk employees make mistakes!

One of my colleagues was attending conference at the Playboy Club when there was one in Northern NJ. He opened the door to the room that he was given and there was a young woman stepping out of the shower! He went to the front desk and got another room!

I've never been given the wrong room 'card' in the many years I've travelled but I guess it happens. Has anyone come into our room, nope but I do put the second lock and that small latch that will prevent anyone, including hotel staff, from coming into your room. Yes keep a pair of quick putting clothes on and slippers type shoes, cell phone and keys and glasses by the bed in case of that emergency of having to leave the room. Also I do wonder down hallways to find the emergency exits, after looking at the emergency notice and map usually found on the back of the door. It's best to be over prepared then having to quickly leave the room and have no idea which direction to turn.
