No deodorant

I read a post about guys who are no longer wearing deodorant. I thought this was a bizarre topic. I have been experiencing a break out under my armpits and remembered reading about men who do not wear deodorant. I figured I would give it a try. It has been about two months and I am glad I have decided not to wear deodorant again. I feel so much better physically.

RE:No deodorant

I found a simple paste recipe online with baking soda as the main ingredient and like it. It's not the sweat that bothers me but the old smell in my shirt the next day. Don't want to do more laundry than I have to.

RE:No deodorant

When you eat clean and get the toxins out of your body. You no longer need it if you have good regular hygiene.
I rarely use it and when I do it's non aluminum.

RE:No deodorant

I must not eat very clean. I shower every morning. If I don't apply deodorant within 10 minutes or so of getting out the shower, I begin to stink. I think it's great for those folks who don't stink to not worry about those using deodorant. The people who piss me off are the ones that stink and don't wear deodorant - as if the rest of us should love the way you stink as much as you do. I recall once being at a restaurant and the waiter stunk like B-O/armpit to high-heaven! It was so offputting and ruined the meal. If I meet someone who stinks at the clothing-optional beach, I usually will avoid such people.

RE:No deodorant

I have not used deodorant for about 25 years maybe more as I really hate the way it feels in my pits and the perfume odour and I feel like I am not letting my body sweat out toxins as it should naturally and I feel this cannot be good for my body. I do shower regularly and wash my pits and thats all I think is needed. I do sweat a lot and I do have a noticeable body odour and thats natural we all do but most choose to mask it. I personally like my smell and also the armpit odour of other men so for me its not a problem. I do understand that a lot of people find it offensive for whatever reasons and so in some social situations I will use a body spray that is not a deodorant or antipersperant but really more like a perfume. I do not like to use this but I feel I have to for some occasions sadly. Otherwise I just smell like I should as a man and thats the way I like it and if others find that disagreeable then so be it. I do get comments on my smell but I dont get upset about it I just say I am clean healthy and natural.

RE:No deodorant

Well this is a discussion thats quite interesting. Years ago my wife started using a crystal deodorant from the natural health food store. What a great product she stopped using deodorants. She did not smell and was quite comfortable.
For me I work outside in Arizona when its 115 out. I dont just sweat water pours out of my body. At the beginning of the summer I start sweating and yes I do smell. But as the summer goes on the smell goes away. Maybe because Im drinking 2 gallons of water a day. Also Marie has been giving me apple cider vinegar. just a capful in my tea cup every day. She even says I do not smell at night in bed.
We are eating healthier, more vegetables and fruit. Which also help!
But deodorants HELL NO !
Ive never believed in the product. Because it contains aluminum which is a soft metal. Why put that into your body. You dont want lead in your body. Why would you want another type of metal other than iron.

RE:No deodorant

anti perspirant and deodorants are like cheap perfumes and colognes after a while they smell worse and worse and become overpowering especially if you happen to have allergies or a sensitive nose!. I think guys are onto something . Since retired and home a lot i use less of the cologne and deodorants and i seem to have less body odor. I do bath regularly will wipe off with wash cloth if i feel i been sweating. I notice less body odor now days.. Don't forget clothing is a big source of body oder from retaining sweat and bacteria. . just some thoughts. my cple cents worth , thanks have a grt day.. be respectful of others noses too though.

RE:No deodorant

Great thread! Here's my summary:
1) what you put in to your body affects what comes out
2) hygiene can be from the inside out (such as saunas) as well as the outside off (quick shower)
3) covering "bad" smells with "good" smells is still smelly
4) there are options to absorb body toxins/smells which are healthy (crystals, baking soda) and unhealthy (aluminum infused deodorants)
5) much of what's defined as "body odor" comes from bacteria which have grown in the petry dish of unwashed skin and clothes

There have been times camping when I've been dirty, sweaty and away from plumbing and water to swim in. I've heated a couple cups of water, added a few drops of dish soap and sponge washed myself naked in front of a campfire. Not as luxurious as a spa, but I sure felt clean and comfortable to get a good night's sleep.

when i get up in the morning and not going out i don't put on deodorant as i will be nude for the day also i'm a smoothie so no underarm hair to get wet -sweaty even do light household chores -housecleaning i don't sweat it's when i put on a shirt and go out i may sweat some but unless in sun doing outdoor task is when i sweat . i love fresh air so my windows stay open i think some get so use to air conditioners that they can't endure heat and sweat and sweat creates odor just my thought.

Let's not forget perspiring / sweating is a natural protection from body over heating . It comes at a cost to our bodily hydration and the amount of salts in our systems. Stopping it is dangerous as is the lack of replacing our body liquids and salts If you have never been overheated and become sick or woozie count yourself lucky . I have and its no fun and it takes time to regain ability to tolerate those conditions again , if you ever fully do. We are approaching summer here in Americas and canada

RE:No deodorant

I eat pretty healthy, and I still use deodorant. I fear how my armpits will smell especially if I have been eating a lot of onions. I mean they do say that you are what you eat lol. But I would love to find a more natural means of protecting myself from BO. I like the idea of using baking soda...b.s. can be used for so many things.
