A really well written article, and very true, a great follow up post full of great quotes too.
Really makes you realise what a twisted and strange world we live in when sex and violence are OK but simple innocent nudity is not.

"'Public nudity is a crime here, and yet pornography and hypersexual advertising is everywhere in the UK and North America.'
The ever-present appearance of sex and sexual messages in our culture and media goes along with fear and horror at actual nudity and causes all kinds of problems for peoples sexual activity and self-confidence."

I think the author nailed it with these comments. As a society we don't seem to be able to see or grasp the incredibly odd juxtaposition of these two views: 1) nudity is bad and 2) pornography & sexuality are good.

If there is a need for more evidence about the pervasiveness of porn in America, look at these stats from an April 6, 2010 article on UPIU.com
It is more profitable than baseball, basketball and football combined.
Men will spend an estimated $3,000 a second on it.
Internet pornography, a $24.9 billion business, consumes one to two hours of the average man's day, according to Jennifer Johnson, an assistant sociology professor at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Will our society ever come to accept basic simple nudity or will we stay lost in this awful mixed up view of sex & nudity that allows pornography to run rampant ?

RE: Nudes in the news this week

An interesting previous story had a group of men attacking and harassing shoppers on a city street. By coincidence, at the same time, a report came in of some man walking along another street, naked, and talking to strangers he wandered past.
The violent group were not aprehended, as the police were busy capturing the dangerous nude gentleman.

Explaining nudism is like explaining God. If you're a believer, no explanation is necessary. If you're a non-believer, no amount of reason will everconvince you otherwise. In both cases the belief must come from the heart. One of the basic problems with nudism is there is not much money that can be made from it. If there was a big payoff for anyone to have everyone being nude, Madison Street would be commissioned to have large advertizing promotions for it. As it is, sex sells! That is why women are convinced to spend $50 or more on 10 cents worth of cloth in a swim suit. Seems like to only industry that really benefits from nudism is the towel industry.
