One thing that keeps me from doing this of late, Most hotels now have security cameras that record activity on their property. Be careful!
I had done this for years, but I would remove my shorts near the pool! on one vacation I looked around and saw the cameras near the pool, so I avoided the swim. Now I see them all the time.
