Florida panhandle
While I know there are not any legal nude beaches in the panhandle area, is anyone aware of any "unofficial" nude beaches and where are they? I would love to find an area where one can reasonably be assured they will not get arrested and meet others who enjoy being nude on the beach.
The only area that I know of is Johnson Beach over on Perdido Key on the FL/AL line. Part of the Gulf Coast National Seashore. Technically not permitted but enforcement ebbs and flows depending on the ranger and superintendent. Recent reports indicate that with the staffing issues resulting from the pandemic over the last several issues, enforcement is rare. You must hike past the backcountry post and should be discrete and cover up if you see others approaching. Sometimes folks come by boat and beach their boat on the bay side and walk across to the ocean side so folks may pop up behind you.
I have heard that there is some nude sunbathing on Crooked Island in the Mexico Beach area. This is part of Tyndal AFB and non-DOD personnel must obtain a recreational permit to be on the island.
Princess Beach on Okaloosa Island just west of Destin sees some nude sunbathing on both the bay and ocean side, but area has gotten more and more popular by those seeking to avoid the crowded beaches of Destin and Fort Walton.
Hope this helps.
