Ocala National Forrest...nude hiking?
I've been thinking about exploring Ocala National Forrest and have been researching the possibility of nude hiking or walking trails. It is unclear whether it's legal or at least somewhat accepted anywhere in the area... There are some blogs and reddit posts that suggest some trails are commonly nude use... What's the "real deal"? Where, when, and what considerations should I be aware of?
Thanks for any guidance or suggestions!
Commonly used, legal, acceptable , all very different. If it legal it would be posted just like fl beaches that you may be exposed to nudity or something like that, dont remember wording. Commonly used I would think , yep people hiking naked, are the nudists or guys cruising? Acceptable, maybe they have been seen kicking naked and it wasnt a big deal. If if the law gets a complaint you are 10 oclock news.
I have see a couple articles that said Fl passed a bill that you can be naked on any fl beach. I dont know that to be true as have not dug into it to find out. Just because there is a story/article does not mean it is true and accurate.
I enjoy fishing and boating. 9 miles off shore is federal waters. They are patrolled buy the same people patrolling state waters. But, fed waters have different laws/rules. I have never had a problem past 9 miles being naked on the boat. If people come close they wave. Thats rare its a big gulf. Last year FWC came by to check fishing lic. Being old, ha, I dont need one. They left very quickly, didnt do a boat check.
Up here in Tallahassee a small group of us hike naked in the Apalachicola national forest. We have found a few secluded trails that are safe, and on the few occasions we have run into anyone they are ok with us being naked. We even skinny dip in some springs. You are welcome to join us anytime.
I have hiked naked along the Florida trail during the week and have never seen another soul. I don't hike naked when it's hunting season or during weekends.
I have only driven through on my way from Daytona to Ocala for work. I'm not sure where the Florida trail is... I will have to do some investigating
I have often camped/hiked nude in ONF during the summer. Set up camp in the Hidden Pond area and use that as a base for nude hikes all around the Juniper Prairie area. I always hike with a coverup, but during the summer you are unlikely to run across others unless you are near one of the trailheads. In all the years I have only had one ranger (male) come by on horseback during those years. He told me that public nudity in the ONF was illegal and to coverup should I see others. After that encounter I did some research and found that if the national forest hs a notice that public nudity is prohibited you can be cited. Turns out that the Forest Service has published such a notice for all the national forests in FL.

So, not technically legal but highly unlikely to encounter any issues based on my experience.
This might be one of the articles sometimes written about. It is a FAKE, Satirical News Site: It is not true, just a fun, fictional article. Still it would be nice to see enacted someday.

FAKE NEWS TEXT: "The state of Florida has made a bold change to its laws concerning nudity at public beaches, and this one might ruffle some feathers. Beginning August 1st, full nudity will be legal at all public beaches as long as you obtain a Florida State Nudity License (FSNL).
Governor Rick Scott approved the bill passed by the state legislature making public nudity at state-owned beaches legal, and he encourages tourists and residents to make use of new law. Today is a great day. Not only will it be legal to hang out at the beach totally nude, but we encourage you do to so, Governor Scott said. As long as you are a fairly attractive person, nobody is going to complain.
One part of the new law, which may be infuriating to some, is the weight limits for those who may strip down completely. If you are overweight by more than twenty pounds, you will not be given a license. You will be politely asked to go on a diet and come back at a later date to try again. It really is not that complicated. Scott said. We want everyone to enjoy this. Obtaining a license will not be hard for those who meet all of our standards, and it will be a quick and easy process. Residents and guests in the state may visit any of our town halls, where we will have employees trained to record the weight of those wishing to go nude. You will also be asked to submit a picture of your face and genitals. If youre not too ugly or fat, then they will issue you a license for a fee of only $10, which will be good for 1 year.
Residents in several communities have said that they are really torn on the subject.
On one hand, everyone likes to freeball it once in a while, said Miami resident Jacob Miller, 58. On the other hand, my wrinkly penis probably wont pass the inspection, so I more than likely cant get a license issued anyway. Thankfully, I live right on the beach, so even if I cant be nude, I can enjoy all the fine young ladies who will be walking around, muffs exposed. END OF FAKE NEWS ARTICLE
Years and years ago, I was part of a now defunct group called Florida Great Outdoors which hosted outdoor activities for gay/bi males. I hiked Ocala twice with them and most of the group was nude. I remember water being knee and thigh high through some of the trails. Being naked in a national park is neither legal or illegal; its a beautiful gray zone as long as nothing lewd is occurring. That is the code we functioned under.
