Dark, even tan

At Gunnison, I often see people with a very dark, totally even tan.
How do they keep it even?
Everyone has to wear clothing outdoors sometime.

For me,, Im out on the water sailing bare, 180 days a year. Lucky to be retired with an endless summer.
