Military Swimming Holes
In a youtube video, military swimming holes are described as informal locations near military bases where service men could escape and relax. The video doesn't discuss nudity, but its archival footage primarily from the 1940s shows that nudity and mixed nudity was common. To me, the video reflects how times were different and boundaries between on/off base, clothed/naked or social/personal recreation were less structured. I'm curious of TN members' experiences, even past this golden age of WW II era military swimming holes.

Well I had seen that "video" and honestly- it is nothing but using military Males as an excuse to show unclothed Males/soldiers. ... And honestly it kind of pisses me off when these soft porn clowns need to use the Soldiers of past wars as their way to be 15 sec. in the spotlight. Just an underhanded form of Stolen Valor.
It sounds like it's not a matter of sauntering down to the local military swimming hole and stripping down for an hour or two in the sunshine on a quiet sunny afternoon after all.
In Sydney, three of our nude beaches on the harbour are former naval bathing beaches. The navy established fortifications on the main headlands in the early days of white settlement, and the beaches were used by the sailors for washing. At Cobblers Beach there is some WWI graffiti left on a rock by several sailors.
Over the years, (fortunately) the beaches have been used by civilians too. Now they are enthusiastically protected legal nude beaches.
For what its worth, I never saw nor heard of any military swimming holes during the 80s. As a flyer, we came & went and werent in an area very long. This did include a multi year stint at Ft Bragg. Im sure there was a definite potential back in the corners of the range. My Dad (Navy PBY type) told me of living in the barracks of North Africa during WWII & sleeping nude because of the heat. He said their cheap entertainment was lighting a match to someone who had just *passed gas* and watching the resultant flame. He said that with a mischievous look & chuckle. You can do lots of really odd things when youre bored to tears in the middle of nowhere.
