Are gstrings generally considered sufficient covering for beaches in Australia?
In most US states, they are not.

Love going to the Canaries for holidays, you can virtually go to any beach naked, and there used to be a naturist hotel in Fuerteventura, where you could walk out naked and go for miles naked along the beach at Corralejo.

RE:GunnisonWell, technically they cover the genitals; the fact you can completely make out the shape beneath the fabric is not addressed in the legislation!
I also have a Koala brief which has a pouch that has a separate section for the shaft that is nevertheless connected in a pointed-down direction. It would be unnoticeable until you got close, although it is also very brief front and back.
