Top Aussie Nude beaches
Have only been to Sunnyside North as it's my 'local' C.O. beach but have walked past Lady Bay on a walk to South Head. The proximity of the walking trail to the Head and the small size of the beach would make for an intimate experience. Not for the timid nudist but the exhibitionist nudist shall likely be in their element. I imagine spectacular sunsets, too, complimenting the regular million-dollar views.
I haven't been to many nude beaches, here in Oz, but TWO that I have visited and would recommend are: Swanboure Beach, in Western Australia, and Samuria Beach, on the other side of the nation, in New South Wales.
The wife and I visited Swanbourne on one of her business trips. The broad, sandy beach was perfect for laying out and soaking up sunshine!
Samurai is "in our back yard" and served as out tanning bed for many years. The crescent-shaped beach, nestled between two rocky headlands, is pristine, white sand, and lots of the local "boys" use it as a surf beach. The ONE drawback is that there is NO shade available on the beach. If you are planning to spend a day on the beach, I would suggest you bring a shelter or shade, so you can get OUT of the sun. The entrance track to Samuria is only accessible with a 4x4, and in places the loose sand can be difficult to navigate! Come prepared to let a LOT of air out of your tyres! Access IS possible by walking the entire length of One Mile Beach and climbing over the headland. Do-able but arduous if you are carrying a day's worth of supplies.
There IS another nude beach just south of Newcastle, Birdie Beach, but I've NOT been there. I really WANT to go... and I'll let everyone know what it's like.
Cheers!
I'm lucky enough to have been to many of the official nude beaches and the unofficial ones, except, curiously, the Sydney beaches. In Victoria, the dramatic Southside (was Point Addis) and Point Impossible in Torquay, the old, ugly Campbell's Cove out of Werribee, Sunnyside, and my local favourite, Somers. Add to that Cape Conran and one of the beaches in Croajingolong. In NSW, Armands (a stunner), Myrtle Beach, Birdie and Samurai, Shelly Beach near Forster, Miners at Port Macquarie and Little Diggers at Coffs Harbour, and of course the wonderful North Smoky at Arakoon. Kings (another stunner) and Belongil North at Byron. In Queensland, Alexandria Bay, Long Beach on Great Keppel and Balding Bay on Magnetic Island (another gem). Casuarina in Darwin. Swanbourne, Warnbro around Perth, Redgate near Margaret River, Whalers Cove at Albany. And in SA, Maslin, Sunland and the now closed Pelican Point. Oh, and Kambah Pool in the ACT. I have videos at many of these at https://vimeo.com/user28437071/videos
Certainly an interesting list. While Lady Bay's location is outstanding, it's way too small to be considered as our best beach. My local beach, Sunnyside is good, and is the only option within Melbourne. I'll review it's pros and cons in a review in a separate post, and certainly deserves it's spot in the top 10. Maslin I have only been to once, and a long time ago, but it is a beautiful, long wide beach, with magnificent cliffs at the back of the beach. No too far to travel from the city, I'd certainly rate it higher than 8. Point Impossible at 9 astonishes me. It is a beautiful beach, everything that a surf beach should be. Very long, wide and pristine, it's place should be very close to the top. Only knock is that it's a fair way from Melbourne, but well worth the drive. The glaring omission amongst beaches I've visited is Shelly Beach in Booti Booti National Park near Forster - just a glorious beach in every way, and it would be number one to me.
I'll post reviews and photos of the beaches I've visited, in the future.
Until then, have fun and stay nude, Michael
