I think most of the hiding is in the print patterns working to disguise the shapes and tones beneath. One of my wife's Sokar tan-through suits wasn't that good at hiding the areolae or butt crack as the pattern wasn't sufficiently busy in the critical places. Conversely my Skinz A14 loose shorts in Dali mesh work as well, but don't make the tan-through claim. Whatever, I'm happy. :-)

I actually have a solid black tan through swim brief. No detail shows through. Really haven't worn it often enough to judge the tan through claim.
I buy tan through swimwear more because they are lighter in weight and feel less constricting and less because I am concerned about tan lines.
