Arrived Cap d'Agde on Friday and stayed at Hotel La Bergerie - very comfortable and friendly - and well worth booking ahead. It's within walking distance of the naturist village. We were able to get a day's pass for 6 Euro's each (exhorbitant! but worth it because it allowed us to check out the parking spot reserved for our car as well as the location of our villa in Port Nature Village, as well as other facilities (supermarket in Port Ambonne, for example). We also checked in at AGN to see if we could get in a bit earlier yesterday. The staff there were very friendly and helpful (in French, German and English) and said to try at 3pm (three hours earlier than the 6pm check-in time they advertise).
On the day itself (yesterday, Saturday 25th) we checked out of the hotel at midday and were able to buy our 7 day entry smart card for car and passengers at the naturist village office (only 12 Euros for 7 days - compare with the 12 euros for two for one afternoon the day before when we didn't have our accommodation contract with us...)
We left the car in the Port Nature car park in OUR numbered spot and went to the beach again after locking all the luggage in the car. The weather is fantastic and has been ever since we arrived at the coast on Friday about midday. At the hotel they invited us to enjoy their very nice pool rather than the sea - TOO COLD they said... However, while "refreshing", the sea is perfectly bearable - especially in the shallower water.
The sea breeze can be usefully cooling, too, and we would advise slip-slops (thongs to some Aussies) or sandals when walking on sand away from the water itself. Sand-gropers (from West Oz) will know all about how even white sand can be burning hot in summer.... There was quite a crowd on the beach - and an amazing assortment of languages, body-types, preferences etc etc, as you would expect.
We were pleased to find the villa nicely fitted out - and well-worth booking about 6 weeks ago when they were getting scarce. It also has the advantage of being QUIET - compared with the partying crowd in the Port Nature apartment s. Saturday night was a visual spectacle with throngs of nudists dessed up - leather, chains, piercings, see-through finery, nets etc etc on display. It IS usual to wear something in the evening, it seems, and at least one venue demanded sexy and chic dress for couples as their dress standard.
Port Ambon seems to be the main shopping cntre for supermarket items, and there are numerous pretty affordable eating venues - pizzeria, patisserie, butcher etc. Note well that the supermarket closes in the early afternoon.
WI-FI - BUY A CARD AT THE SUPERMARKET FROM WISPOT www.wispot.fr NOT the German outfit. 38 Euros for 7 days and a faster connection is well worth it. Also, the website is much more approachable.
Hope all this helps someone else...
Cheers, Giles
UPDATE: TobyTek from www.NATURIST.de wifi got back to me a day after I paid for 500 megabytes via PayPal and left a complaint about NOT getting a user name and password for my 28 Euros. He sent me both by e-mail (interesting) AND sms (as requested) and I now have two alternatives - useful if one wifi source gets slow. At the rate I'm using megabytes the German alternative is the better value for money - it'll last beyond the 7 day arrangement with WISPOT.
It's been hot enough to make the use of a beach umbrella a good idea - and footwear essential any distance from the water. Those who have been here before will know that the dunes towards the Marsellian end of the nude beach get "busy". I observed little other than a lot of meercats on one cursory inspection. From 2pm onwards, it seems public amorous displays become popular on the open beach near the ice-cream vendors, particularly fine or successful denouments being greeted by polite applause (and accompanied by much enthusiatic self stimulation by the surrounding gallery of lonely men). I understand that THIS is the right month for entertainment of this sort. Next month the police patrol on horseback.
For those not entertained by such jollity, there are plenty of other beach areas where true nudists can feel comfortable.
Evening wear continues to amuse and amaze. We, however, must be seriously disappointing in our normal street clothes, devoid of tats, piercings, chains, leather and even see-through tops and/or bottoms...
