Who gives wine as gifts? what is your favorite wine (type and wine maker) to gift to someone?

I know some wine "connoisseurs" look down on white merlot, but it's a good, middle-of-the-road, balanced wine that has broad appeal. I like Berringer white merlot.

Thanks for the share. Dont think I have had a white Merlot but then again I am partial to red wines.
