Bringing folks into the fold
The title really sums it up for all of us. Though by membership in this group, we acknowledge that our fellow nudist friend list is very short. Do we want to change it (our list length) or keep it as is? I would like to add a small select local group of nude friends to my circle but dont see it happening. Nudists Anonymous (LOL) does not have a local chapter and I / we dont get out a great deal. We really enjoy our primary resort but dont get over there often enough. So, in short, we will probably continue on as we are and pick up a few friends as we can. Do others do likewise?
We, too, don't get to our club as often as we'd like. We have graduated from day visits to 2, 3, 4-night visits in our RV but don't get that out of storage that often. We've convinced a few of our daughters' friends to try nudism and they have and continue to, as far as we know. None of our friends will even talk about it.
Di prefers to meet people at the clubs and resorts we visit. If there's a connection, we bring them into the fold. Di and I are opposites in so many ways, I'm an extrovert. Social, like lots of friends and would have more but Di's an extrovert. She's content with the 3 other nudist couples we are friends with and it's the same with the 3 other textile couples we are friends with. She really doesn't want to increase those numbers.
I'd love to join a non-landed group locally but she'd rather not. I'd like to meet other nudist couples at a local coffee shop to see if there's a connection. Di would rather meet them at the club or a resort. We used to meet people at the beach but our local nude beaches are difficult to get to so we don't visit them anymore.
We too, live in a nudist wasteland. We have quite a few nudist friends but they are 100s and most 1000s of miles away. Most of our very good nudist friends are on the west coast; we are on the east coast. We see our nudist friends when we RV there every summer.
I just got lucky. For years, my wife and I had zero nudist friends. We just didn't go to resorts often enough to strike any real friendships. We tried to get some non-nudist friends to join us; but they all chickened out.
But then I ran into an old co-worker at a resort. We "bonded" as nudists (after we recovered from the initial shock lol!); and being that she'd been going to the resort for many years, she and her husband had friends they introduced us to. We made it a point to all hang out on a regular basis; and my wife agreed to going to the resort more often. Going to the resort more often made us "regulars"; and as my wife is pretty social, other friendships were formed with other couples. Seemingly overnight, we went from zero nudist friends to about 5 couples we hang out with. When the resort is closed for the year, we occasionally meet up with 3 couples intermittently in a non-nudist setting.
A recent development is my wife (finally) recognizing the fact that the nudist friendships are just as important as the non-nudist ones. Next year (which is now in a few days), she wants to invite 1 or 2 of the couples over for dinner and card games. She has pretty much been opposed to home-group nudity; so I asked her if we should we designate the evening as "clothed." To my surprise, she replied that she preferred to designate it as "bring a towel"; leaving the possibility of making it a "nude event" open, if everyone is comfortable with it. Whether it turns naked or not; I think it will reinforce our friendships with our nudist friends.
But; without the coincidence of running into my co-worker and becoming "regulars" at our resort, we probably would still have zero nudist friends to this day. It's a lot tougher than it seems...

We are quite fortunate. Though we just lost another clothing optional club, we still have a couple of nude beaches, two clubs, a couple of "resorts", a few non landed clubs and plenty of open land to enjoy social nudism, all within a couple hours of us. We've not connected with anyone close by like we've connected with our close nudist friends out of state.
All these close friends are in the same boat we were in when we met them 20-30 years ago. They didn't have grandkids or married kids. We had married kids and little grandkids. Now, all our grandkids are grown, the youngest being 14. All their grandkids are infants to toddler age. We are a bit less busy; they are busier than all get out. We have to plan and coordinate a gathering a year in advance and sometimes, that doesn't work. The last time we met up was 18 months ago.
We did gather annually in Palm Springs, CA. at the old Terra Cotta Inn. Di and I visited there just after it opened as a clothing optional resort and visited for 20 years for the day, overnight, 2-4 nights and a week, many times. Nowadays, we have to find a VRBO that will give us the opportunity to use it as a nudist gathering place for a week. That's usually pretty easy. Finding a week where all 8 of us can commit to the dates, well, that's becoming very difficult. It's become easier for us to meet up with them separately.

Di is opposed to inviting "new" friends over to the house for a nude gathering. She prefers to keep it at the club/resort environment until she feels we've hit it off well enough to take it to that level. Which is funny because our closest nudist friends we met for 2 days at the resort in PS. They needed a ride to the airport for their flight back to CO. We, having the car because we were local, gave them a ride. On the way to the airport, we continued our talking and our friendship just clicked so easily.
Before we arrived at the airport, the CO couple asked if we were returning to the same place the next year at the same time. We told them we were and they said, "we'd love to join you again." Di gave them our phone numbers, our email and said, "before we make our reservations, we'll email you so you can make yours for the same days." She then said, "if you want to come a few days earlier, let us know. You can come stay with us at our home. You can have options for which airport you'd like to fly home from." Di's has a good sense of character and she picked these people to be friends with and we've been close friends ever since.
We did gather annually in Palm Springs, CA
Say Andy, do you know of any places around PS to RV nude? My wife's and my travel plans are changing dramatically for the foreseeable future as our son and his family are relocating from Seattle to Phoenix this winter. We used to spend summers at a nudist park in the Seattle area where we've been members for the last 4 years but will now spend our away from home time in AZ (we're in PA).
The reason I'm asking about PS is that our very good nudist friends from Issaquah like to visit PS often and they are now owners of a new RV. We will be in AZ and PS is not that far of a drive to meet up with them if we can find somewhere to camp. I will check out all the usual sources ie Allstays, Campendium, Boondockers Welcome, etc but I figured I'd ask a local like yourself for any tips if you have some.

Hey J&B,
If you're looking for a nude venue, like a club, the closest to PS is Olive Dell Nude Ranch in Colton.
We've not stayed here yet but I plan to go check it out with the wife and post a trip report, Turtle Back Mesa BnB. Not sure if the property can accommodate an RV or two but I suspect if they do, it may only be for dry camping.
I haven't found or heard of any naturist/nudist, clothing optional RV parks in and around PS. Joshua Tree would be the only place I'd figure you can camp away from others and enjoy your time naked.

Thanks Andy! I'll check out Olive Dell and BLM land around Joshua Tree

Olive Dell is my favorite local club. I love the vibe and the people. We are members of Glen Eden. GE is a little more upscale with paved roads, concrete pad RV spots and lots of amenities but the people can be cliquish. I've been spending lots of time out on BLM land. Some in the RV and some in my Jeep and a tent. You can find some "away from others" spots and be naked quite a bit. I've come across lots of "van life" type people and you'd be amazed at how many people get naked out in the desert. Happy searching!
