I thought anything without a back strap were flip flops.
Those with something between the toes were also called thongs, the kind without were also slides.
To thw best of my knowledge rhings are what flip flops are called outside the US. Slides are called slides because you literally slide your foot under the strap that goes across as opposed to between the toes. Slide also typically don't make that flip flop sound.I thought anything without a back strap were flip flops. Those with something between the toes were also called thongs, the kind without were also slides.
When we were visiting my wife's brother and his family in Australia, we took them to a fairly nice restaurant.
There was a sign in the lobby that said men in thongs were allowed in the bar, but not the dining room.
I was confused until our nephew explained that it referred to footwear.
Since he was wearing thongs (on this feet) we ate at a table in the bar.
