Swedish Cabins in Autumn and Winter

Having had a brilliant holiday in the Stockholm Archipelago this summer, I'm wondering whether Swedes still go to their cabins as the weather gets colder and the days get darker? I imagine they might be magical places to be on a snowy day with the Aurora lighting up the night sky. But do the ferries still run as frequently to the islands? And can you keep cabins warm in winter?
