Can we know how many naturism followers or nudists exist in Australia?

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone here had any statistics on the naturist population in Australia. It seems to be emergent and was growing as of the 2010s, based on information that I read earlier.

I think it is interesting to see if this question can be answered, easily or with difficulty, so if anyone has time, that seems like an interesting thing to learn in spare time, that is, if anyone is not terribly busy.

I might follow-up with my own post if I later get better information. I probably will look later this week or before December 2024.

So, without further delay, just a few things I would think would be relevant to determining how many naturism people live in Australia:

1) Definition of Australia (Territories, Norfolk Island, Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria State, and Tasmania) (Easy to define with proper populations)

2) estimates or records for Total Population of Australia the nation or for each state or territory (I can easily retrieve from Wikipedia or the CIA World Factbook, or the Australian Census records.)

3) Population in the year 2024 for Australians registered to the Australian associations for naturism. (Australian Naturists (if that is the name), and so on.)

4) Other estimates of how many Australians in 2024 practice or have heard of naturism or nudist practices. Polls would indicate some surveys, and other records or sources indicating responses of Australians to naturism wold be good to establish how popular is naturism.

No answer is the wrong answer, it helps to have respect and collaboration over this.

I will post my response to my own post here in the original post on December Second. I will be looking into some research on my own in the meantime.

Anything that might impart knowledge on how the culture really is in Australia, with a respectful or otherwise impartial literary "tone" or style of writing, might complete the picture of Australia's people and of the naturists in Australia.

And yes, Australia has millions of people living in it.

And has much to offer in culture and food and other goods and tourism.

Australia is a beautiful place in many areas, including, among other areas or places, Tasmania.

The Blue Mountains are also nice.

Western Australia also has some very nice places that are in that state.

I could go on, but there are many other nice and interesting places in Australia.

Thank you for reading this, I will try to get back on my answer to these questions later.

Howdy, I am looking forward to seeing how your results compare to mine.

An interesting question, but how would the data be obtained? Most nudists are not part of an official organisation, so that source would be erroneous. Also, what would define someone as a nudist?

I see that there will be difficulty in gathering statistics for "official and accurate" estimates of how many naturists there are in Australia.

Unless I can find some reliable polls about "social nudity," "naturism," and "nudism" and "naturist resorts" and "nude beaches" and their support, I will likely be using some data that might leave an incomplete picture.

Over the next two weeks I will try to look for polls on such topics, and try to see how many total people completed each of these polls about the topics mentioned.

Besides those data points from polls, I will use percentages of naturists relative to "The Total Population of Australia" in total number estimates, and I will compare the total size of members of official organizations to that of the population.

I also will compare favorable percentage in polls that are favorable to the naturism topics in poll questioning, to the estimates of coverage of population by such polls, and try to round out a number of the percentage of the population covered by the polls that spoke favorably by comparing the poll survey population size to the general population total for Australia the United Nations Member state.

I will try to estimate using 2024 numbers.

Thank you all for your questions, I will try to answer other questions in this forum. Many Thanks to the group moderators for letting me become and stay a member of this group.

Also, what would define someone as a nudist?

What defines someone as a nudist would be this:

"Anyone visiting a nude beach or other "naturist area" regularly who practices "social nudity" which would be the nudity of a person in a group setting,

or, a person self-claiming to practice the philosophy of "naturism" or of another philosophy called "anarcho-naturism" or "FreiKorpurKultur" and regularly practices social nudity.

Or anyone identifying as "Nudist" or "naturist" and can say they have been socially nude at any point in their life.

The key is the definition of social nudity and whether one has done it or not in a deliberate and respectful setting.

Naturism, often called social nudity, is defined by the International Naturist Federation as " way of life in harmony with nature characterised by the practice of communal nudity with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and for the environment."

Another, more simple definition is "respectful community nudity with the idea of respect for the environment."

Nice to see support.

I will be gathering some research here, and I will only by myself be doing my own research from some general sources when I will look for some sources on the matter.

You are free to independently collect your own data and gather your own sources in order to do your own survey if you all really want to do so. I will be back with the data I will have collected in the first week in December.

I basically outlined a good start, and public libraries and non-profit libraries of official naturist sources would work as an idea, but you are free to complete the concept of a survey of naturism in Australia, in any way you might want to do.

I think this should be interesting in its sources and the beginning of its examination. I think this can work well.

I will just be doing my own survey, but I can intellectually point people to the more correct sources of information of records about naturism and human nudity, so I will try to look into this well. I do not think I am able at this time to visit Australia.

So I will not be able to meet any Australians in person.

I personally ask people to not visit me in my city. This is written inside my biography in my profile. so I really don't have any capacity for visitors right now due to my living situation.

I have time on my hands but will be busy in January with things, in preparation for April Taxation Season in the United States.

Basically all, do as you please, but I cannot visit Australia, and I would not want any people from outside my house to visit me in my city due to my living situation being too tight right now, especially with my family visiting during the American holidays right now.

Alright, I found some statistics about naturism that seem to be rather reliable.

ANF (Australian Naturists Federation) is an association with 2000 members.

According to a study by the publication "Escape" in Australia,

Australia makes the most Google searches for "Naturism" and "Nude Beaches" in a year for any country in the world at 400,000 searches in each year.

Yes a good question and one Id be interested in knowing the answer, I think a good start point would be the ANF (for state) and or the INF (for national).
My guess is the legitimate nudist/naturist would be members of one or both organisations, add to that a percentage for non aligned people..ie those who only practice the lifestyle within the privacy of their own homes and youd probably come out close to the mark.
Good luck with this one, Stay nude Stay safe.
