Hygiene, while a rookie mistake, needs to be addressed to some people. Most "casual nudists" Never keep perfect hygiene,
But they need to try, among other things.
OP is not wrong to ask this. Putting the best foot forward, is the best thing we can do, and it is a serious issue in select places near you. Among other things, naturism needs to keep it PG and not be rude when people ask how their health can improve. Productively addressing criticism Should not be hindered! This is an honest, valid question OP asked. And not enough people know their lines and script to get people encouraged, positive, and Happy inside Naturism.
Naturism is a philosophy. It isn't some act of amusement just to get naked. It is fine to get naked, but the objective is well being. And Health. And if you are in naturism, Hygiene should be a priority,
Adolf Koch, a German naturism advocate in the 20th century, is described to have held this position:
"In Koch's opinion, physical education was being neglected by limiting itself to monotonous gymnastics. In addition, there was the lack of personal hygiene, which he complained:
It is a common habit to wash only your hands and face every day, but your feet only twice a week, and your whole body only every eight to fourteen days. Not to mention bathing.
Adolf Koch
For health reasons, Koch promoted daily body cleaning and dental hygiene, which was not a matter of course at the time. Koch started with small requirements: the daily cleaning of the fingernails. For this purpose, a classmate was chosen as the "cleaning commissioner", who inspected the hands and fingernails of her classmates every day. Dental care was added about a week later."

And the real naturism followers do not neglect Hygiene. Hygiene and Assured Safety are a must-have if Naturism will survive.
Finally, in the words of Lee Baxedall,
"Body Acceptance is the idea, Nude Recreation is the way." So this is a means and not always an end.
I came across this topic and I cannot help but to respond. I have read all the responses and I agree with everyone. But being Asian, I think, I wanted to share our basic way of having a good hygiene after pooping.
Where I grew up, a bidet is not a mandatory unlike in Japan. But, we always have a small pale and some sort of a small pitcher which is mainly to use for scooping water. After pooping, we washed our butt with soap and water. And we do this everytime we poop as we are taught to do this since we are small children and growing up. When I moved in the Western country, here in the US, all they have is paper towel but like the other replies from here, I always keep a small package of wet wipes with me or kept a small disposable water bottle in my locker at work that I used specifically to wash myself after doing number 2.
But since the original posting is from a nudist. I think I have a few suggestions as well on how to keep it hygienically clean after number 2.
1) Since you are a nudist and also naked most of the time, go jump in the shower after you did number 2 especially if you are in the nudist resort to properly clean yourself. You are already naked and the shower is just right there very closed to the toilet so why not take the time to wash down there with soap and water. This will eliminate the embarrassing airstrip mark on where you will end up sitting whether in your own towel or whatever.
2) Definitely, shave or wax your behind. This is for all me out there. You mentioned that having a hairy behind always leaves a residue after pooping. You are correct there my friend and that is the reason why I waxed the area around my butt hole. Not for any other reason but only for that reason alone. I get itchy down there when I am not properly washed after doing number 2 so I don't like that feeling either.
3) I installed bidet on my 2 toilets in the house. I know that there are post here that are opposed to that idea but it takes some time to get use to it and it is one of the best inventions of all.
4) if I am in peeing in public restroom, I washed my hands with soap and water before peeing and used a paper towel to dry my hands and I will use that slightly wet paper towel to wipe my penis after I peed. My penis is stuck in my pants the whole time so it stays clean. Your hands are more dirtier than you think so wash your hands with soap and water before you touch that penis of yours to stay clean.
5) Lastly, as we grow older and men specifically, we tend to let our age take a toll on us and we tend to get more lazy in dealing with our hygienes accept it or not but sad but true. Not only down there but also on overall body hygiene and oral care. Please, do take care of yourself properly and don't let age take over you. A good hygiene practice will make you feel good to start your day and wash your clothes at least after you wore them twice or three times that most. The clothes may look clean but if they smell like they are rotten, do yourself a favor and start washing them rather than getting all the disgusting glances as you walk by with people.
To conclude, I am not the shaved type of person in my pubes as I hate it when the hair starts to grow back and it itch like hell. Besides, I like the natural looks of a penis with some hair in it. But I make sure that I trimmed my pubes properly to make it look a bit better. Also, I shaved my balls every other day and I kept them smooth and clean. If you are someone who is not practicing a routinely good hygiene, removing some of those hairs in your private area especially around your butt hole will somehow help you to stay clean and fresh.
The bottom line is, we are all different and we all have our own set of ways how to stay clean and fresh. Sometimes, it takes practice to incorporate that in our daily routine. I am sure that you always have time to play with your phone or watch TV the whole day or be in front of the computer for a few hours. What is 5 or 10 minutes to wash properly down there to stay clean???
Thanks new2 for your Asian perspective on hygiene, which inspires me to rethink my views and habits. Whereas I grew up with showers everywhere, my father's boyhood home only had a wash basins, a laundry tub and an outhouse. Time and habits have changed quickly from a historical perspective. I recognize that it's easy to make judgments about others' hygiene: too little (disgusting) or too much (anal and pendantic). But the question is if I'm being mindful and consistent. Your posting makes me aware of issues such as how I hesitate to get a bidet when toilet seat real estate is already sparse. As a tall man, I need taller and deeper-seated toilets to keep away from the edges and don't have a lot of options living in an apartment. In addition, I've never thought about shaving my anus since it's not accessible to me and I've never heard of that as a professional service or that "friends don't let friends have hairy assholes." But it's reasonable to step up and into better habits. I've also said that good self-care is often about subtraction (showering, shaving, sleeping naked) than addition (unnecessary textiles, spray on scents and chemicals). Now it's a matter of practicing what I preach.
