Apollo Beach, New Smyrna, Florida
I moved to NSB a little over a year and a half ago. I love Apollo Beach as it's so close. But I tend to go later in the afternoon when folks have left and there are open parking spots. Not the best way to meet people, I know. I've been a few times over the winter to check out the beach since Milton and worry that there seems to have been a great deal of erosion, leaving little beach at high tide, especially when there's a little surf. Am I wrong in that assessment or is that the norm during the winter months?
I've been to Apollo Beach many times since it is the closest nude beach for me...however, the parking is dreadful. Not only is lot 5 very small and limited, it's also very far from the previous lot (#4). It takes a solid 15 minutes to drive past #4, find no parking at #5, then go back to lot #4 and subsequently have to walk on the beach for at least 20-25 minutes to get close enough to the area of #5 to be nude. It's a hassle and exhausting. Obviously, you then have to hike all the way back AGAIN to lot #4 at the end of your visit. I also have concerns about going into the water so far between #4 and #5 because the area is so underutilized due to the lack of beachgoers willing to hike so far from either access point...without regular human activity in the water, critters and sharks are going to be more prevalent closer to the shore.
Playalinda may be a longer drive down I-95, but the parking is easier and the whole length of beach is at least somewhat populated.
