I'm pretty sure that'll be how it is, but in the spas rather than the parks - three main advantages are the presence of other naked people, pools, and bars to refresh yourself - and in the case of the Kristalltherme , and swim up bar where all the patrons are naked, that gives you all three things at once.

Bliss!

Neil, Vierordtbad is not great, kind of old style, but it does have three (small) outside pools and a huge inside pool where swimmers can do laps in the nude. Plus, it is entirely nude (or rather clothing optional, you will still see the occasional textile, mostly women). And I can reach it in 45 min when there are no roadworks - but where are there no roadworks on freaking German highways? Maybe three days in winter...

You are right about Baden Baden, Caracalla's nude part upstairs is small and lacks a pool, Friedrichsbad is rather small, all inside and with small pools and no catering... I like Wildbad, great building, several times the size of Friedrichsbad, but the only outside part is the upper terrasse with the panoramic sauna, but you will likely find no available lounge chairs there... Rotherma is more for the elderly, the only advantage is that big lawn where you always find lots of place and chairs to sunbath. Sinsheim is young and fun, but the nude section is but a small part and they have abandoned those fully nude Friday evenings. Plus, you need to buy your tickets more than a week in advance otherwise you will need to buy very expensive lounge chairs (why would anyone do that when more than half of lounge chairs are free and empty and you will spend at most an hour on one?). There is a small copy of Sinsheim in Freiburg, but honestly why bother, so much worse than Sinsheim. Schwabquellen is nice, all nude and all but honestly too kitch for me. All in all I still prefer Sinsheim, I'll spend most of the time in the pool. Sipping on a cocktail on one of those wonderful seats...

A great overview, Flora. Am I getting old if I prioritise a nice lawn despite an older crowd? I guess research is the best answer.

I've been to Baden Baden so many times (probably approaching 40) and I've always meant to go to Bad Wildbad but have never quite got around to it. I will try Sinsheim one day, it's just a little awakwardly far from everywhere if you have flown over.

I used to go to the Schwaben Quellen quite a lot - there was a club in Stuttgart that I used to enjoy so that was part of my regular rotation. I know what you mean about kitsch - it's almost like a Disney theme park of a spa, with fake parakeet noises, and if I remember rightly a swing over the pool like a 70s Joan Collins soft porn movie.

I actually had my stag weekend in Stuttgart and took all the boys to a few of the spas there - I stayed at the Le Meridien and they had a cute little basement spa where I had a wonderful experience of mutual voyeurism with a beautiful woman who was clearly bored with her partner. Just remote enough to invoke plausible deniability, but still lives long in the memory.

At this time of year there really has to be lawns and pools, and a bar to enjoy a spa - which is why I'm heading to my favourites in Berlin. Well, that and the naughty clubs...

Fine, as this quite banal topic got almost to the end of the second page, I posted a new moral dilemma.
