Is there ACCESS to the boardwalk/beach entrance at Lot 5?
I'm aware of the parking lot being closed, but does anyone know if the beach can still be accessed at that boardwalk? I can park at another lot and ride my bike to lot 5...but I don't want to drive to Apollo just to find out there's no nude beach access.
I haven't been there lately, either. However, unlike at Playalinda, the rangers at Apollo have it posted and uphold the rule that walking along the road from one lot to another is not permitted. I heard from someone last month that they were permitting nude use at lot 3 or 4, which ever is the last open lot, as long as you walked south along the beach away from the boardwalk entrance. I'll take a ride over there tomorrow morning and report back what I find out.
I was just at Canaveral NSS North (New Smyrna Beach) for access to lot 5 Apollo Beach. The ranger explained the following:
1. Lot 5 is open and will be open
2. The issue at the moment is that the whole roadway is being repaved and there are days and times that access to Lot 5 may be shut down for a period of time.
3. The contractor is not a Gov't entity and they have no real control over their schedule and that communications as to where they are working on a given day or time is limited.
4. The best he could say is that (A) the temporary sign just past the gate will tell you what portions are being worked on, and (B) if the sign is off or not there, then no work is being done at that time.
I was there at 2 PM and Lot 5 was listed at the booth as full but as we know, it's not always accurate as people come and go.
