Option to choose both old style/new style TN web site

Many people have already expressed there opinions about the new style TN web
site, and several have expressed the how they miss the old style site already
like mentioned by Philfreeeuk here below. Seeing that both style web pages use
the same data base it is a small matter to make an option to members of which
style web page they prefer to view.

It is possible to please every body by just adding a toggle option of which
style site each member prefers to view. It would even be better if some of the
new site functions could be added to the old site style as well, we ask you now
what could be better than having both options available to all members?

AM I living on a different planet? .... Why am I always in the minority?

Everyone is so positive about it, but (and I really DO hate to say it) I'm
getting a REALLY bad feeling about this.

Yes we all wanted improvements, but a whole new site is a very big step,
and dare I say it, risk. I'm missing the old site already.

And now, after a good look around, I'm REALLY wishing the new features had been
incorporated into the old site.

The "Featured Profile" is a good thing, ... IF... there we no illegal profile
pics allowed.
The "Recent Activity" page is a good thing, ... IF ... the forum was moderated
to prevent the crap from giving a bad impression.

The best improvement would have been to just make the moderation/rule
enforcement, more thorough.

The new features are great, but it is far too much like FB for my liking. It's
just like another FB, but with naked pics, and I don't like it.

I'm beginning to realise, that I really like the look and feel of the old site,
it's different, easy on the eye, and easy to use. We are going to lose the site
that we all know and love, for one that I think, is going to be harder to use,
and take a lot longer to keep up to date with everything. (Yet another case of
those wise words "If it ain't broke, don't bloody fix it!" being ignored yet
again.)

If we do lose some of the old features that we've got used to, is going to be a
real pain. Inparticular, the fact that you could scroll down your page, and
check several things at a glance. Now you're going to have to click on
practically everything, to see if there are any changes, and I'll miss the "Who's
Online Now" feature, (even if it wasn't always accurate) and not being able to
see the order, of who was last logged on, in the friends on the profile page.

IF it has gone, I really, really, REALLY, am going to miss the "Recent Activity"
page. I spent far too much time here trying to keep up with the forum, and if I
have to open every forum that has a recent post showing, to see what other
threads have been made/commented on in that forum, it's going to take forever.

The Press Release is saying "The upgrades increased functionality and privacy
while retaining All of the features long-time users have come to enjoy." ..... I
can;t see how that can be true.

The new member search is great.
The new forum search is great.

BUT, ......

I don't like the FB look and feel.
I don't like having to click through several pages to see all my friends.
Now that the friends list is in alphabetical order, you can no longer just go to
the bottom of the list, to see who has just accepted your request, you can see
that the count has gone up, but it is now impossible to know who your new friend
is, unless it tells you on an update.
I don't like the red forum buttons.
I don't like the new logo. (
I don't like the new grey thumbnail logo.
I don't like the new shade of green.
I don't like the grey forum pages. The old forum is much easier on the eye and
far better to look at.
I don't like the small font. (a lot of the older members will find this
difficult)
Quite a few of the profile pics seem to be stretched, and thumbnails badly
cropped, some missing the top, some missing the bottom of the pic. The Admin
profiles have lost the word Admin at the bottom.

Sorry, but I don't like the look of it at all, period! and it IS going to take
longer to use, re more clicks required to get to the same info.

I can't see more than 4 thumbnails. ("See All" doesn't work for me)
I have to click on a thumb, and then open it in a new window to see a pic, then
have to click next and open that in a new window to see another, and so on. It
takes forever, but I guess that's down to this old box. (wonder how many other
members are on old boxes?)
Edit: now the members profile gallery doesn't work at all for me.

And if that lot wasn't enough, to my mind, a major concern should be the fact,
that most of the our DIY "FAQ," "Info" and "How To" threads, that we spent such
a long time building, will become obsolete. All that work will now become a
waste of time, and just confuse the newbies.

The best thing I can do now, is to delete the computer group, and my profile.

The new site does have a basic set of FAQ's, but they ARE, just that, ... basic.

If (like I suspect) TT has written all the code himself, he's obviously put a
lot of time into it, and given that the majority of members will go with the
flow, and won't bother to even to voice an opinion, we're going to get it, no
matter what we say.

Why is it, that all good things must come to an end. :( .... We are going to
lose the unique TN that we have come to know and love, and be forced onto
another inferior facebook site, and there's nothing we can do about it :( .....
If only he had spoken to us first, and improved THIS site.

I really hope I'm wrong on this, but I don't think so. :(

RE: Option to choose both old style/new style TN web site

People are sort of putting the cart in front of the horse. The new site hasn't even gone live yet. We as humans hate change, but maybe give the new site a try after it is live to all members before we start crying about how we don't like it...give it a try, accept that it's new and improve and move on..there's really no need to maintain 2 sites.

This is the first I'm hearing about a new site, and it sounds like people have already tried it. What's going on?

RE: New site

As I understand it, there will be no option.
TT1 will simply re-point DNS, and within 24 hours the whole world will be on the new site, under the old URL.
Personally, I'd like the option of retaining the old site, but it's not my decision.
( and would be tough to do and keep them both current. Syncing databases is not a trivial task. Replicating is, but the site formats differ so much I doubt that either can work with the schema of the other )
EDIT:
Converting a schema isn't tough, and is what I suspect is currently happening on a daily basis. Not practical beyond a short beta period.

RE: Option to choose both old style/new style TN web site

I've gone to the new site several times and I still don't like it. This is like the government in action. We wanted changes to the old site and instead we got FaceBook. I do not like Face Book! In my reply to TT1 concerning the new site I stated that it appeared that he was throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It would be great if we had the option of using the old or new format. Since TT1 has put so much effort into the new site I doubt that he will want to trash it at this point. It looks like that's what we're going to get, weather we like it or not. I still say that TN is the greatest nudist site on the web. TN FaceBook will be a couple of steps lower.
