Ah, makes perfect sense now.
You cant think of anything less essential than underwear, unless you need it, then its essential.
You know if you werent scared of towels or had a phobia for proper shorts, underwear could be , essentially useless for you.
There are times when I feel it's needed, but rarely. I'm often surprised at how much shows up in the laundry, but it's because I wear it for a couple of hour, then opposed to letting lay around for several days until needed again, I toss it into the laundry. Is it essential? Absolutely not.

I know what you mean, since retiring I rarely wear clothes never mind underpants. During the week I only pull on a pair of shorts to answer the door or do the bins, etc.
On the weekend where I leave the house for longer I do wear them when taking the wife to a show and dinner, or some shopping. Non of this is essential as we have food in the house, a TV and Amazon on line.
But its nice to have underpants when the need arises.
