DON"T Scratch it!

I figured since we all enjoy the skin we are in, I would share a little tip I picked up a few years ago.
When I get a bit of itchy skin, from allergic reaction to something or from poison ivy. The WORST thing to do is scratch it, which makes it feel good for a short while but can spread the itch further along.
Amazing isn't it, how we know we should not scratch it, and yet we do because of the short lived relief and we know we should stop, but it is like a drug but we just can't!
Sure you have your ant itch creme witch for either do not work at all or take too long, and then do not last long enough, and they can be expensive!
Well how about a free anti itch treatment that can last for hours? Sounds like a gimmick huh, well check this out.
All you need is hot water...NOT BOILING!!!! Just run your hot water on your tap (or shower) and let it heat up to as hot as you can stand. You CAN STILL SCALD YOURSELF so be careful!!!
With the hot water running put the afflicted area under the water checking to make sure it is not too hot. You can add a little cold water if you want to gradually work your way up to a hotter water.
You will be amazed at the feeling! It is like you have just scratched it like crazy and it feels Soooooo good, almost too good! But as the good feeling subsides after a few seconds take your hand, arm or whatever out the hot water because you are gradually building a heat tolerance and are less able to tell if you are getting too much hot water and can cause scalding.
When done towel off the area and the itch is gone, with no desire to scratch. This can last from 30 minutes to a couple hours depending. Which is great if you are trying to fall asleep and can't stop scratching!
WHY this works....I asked my doctor once and he said that like scratching, the hot water is over stimulating the itchy area and it gives the nerves the sensation that they were scratched. Something like that.
My theory...basically the same as the doctors...plus The hot water opens the pores of the skin and perhaps some of the crud that causes the itching gets washed out. I do not know if this is in any way true, but incase it is, I use a new towel to dry off so as not to spread any itchy stuff that could be on the towel to a new area.
So, that's my two cents. Let me know if this has worked for you in the past, or if it does the next time you get an itch!
Stay naked! Oh and... do not touch the poison ivy!

Yes, I have often found that to be very effective.

Yes, I have often found that to be very effective.I will have to try that the next time I touch poison ivy. I was thinking maybe the hot water brings more circulation tho the area thus stopping the itching. I've also heard that if you get stung by a jelly fish the best thing to do is pee on the affected area. I have no clue why that would work but I'm told it works well. Hope I won't have to try that one!
