Had a great conversation with the MIL this morning. We discussed everything from politics to education. During the course of all that I brought up the naked stuff.
She said she thought it made my wife uncomfortable for me to be around her (MIL) naked. So, we've kinda got this "I don't want someone else to be uncomfortable" thing going on.
She said she had no problem with nudity and didn't mind bumping into me once in a while on the way to the bathroom, etc. and that "a towel is fine." I took it from this that she doesn't mind running into me, but was a little uncomfortable if I'm hanging out naked making breakfast.
We also discussed the fact I'm trying to raise my kids to be comfortable with nudity (they pretty much are) and how we're doing that. She has no problem at all with that. She related her own boys had no problem with nudity when they were growing up in her household and that we appeared to be doing the same thing.
More discussions to come, I'm sure. And they're all fun. We keep laughing about getting naked. What could be better than that?
I suspect that as long as I'm respectful, and we keep laughing and talking about it that she'll get completely comfortable with me, and might even relax her own inhibitions some day.
Oh, there's one other thing. It was completely clear to my MIL during our conversations that I'd just rather not have any clothes on, pretty much ever, but certainly in the morning. And that both my wife and i were frequently naked around the house with the kids around. AND that my boys have skinny dipped with other kids and adults and that we'd like to not just keep that up but expand upon it.
There is simply no way that my MIL doesn't know that I'm happier just taking my clothes off almost anywhere rather than having to keep them on. And we were both very comfortable laughing about it.
I think the thing that I've enjoying the most about these conversations is getting to know my MIL in a completely open and honest manner. She's always been a great MIL. Now, she's turning into a great friend.
i like to be nude at home 99.9 % of the time but i think if mom or mom in law was visiting i'd be dressed unless they were nudist to, i think one exception would be if i lived in a nudist resort and they were visiting for more than a day.
