Upset, damned right, I am
Right in the wake of some very favorable media coverage, including TV and newspaper coverage, of Whispering Pines Nudist Resort's participation in AANRs Record Skinny Dip the following has dominated and nullified all the good publicity. While no inference was made to a connection to the Record Skinny Dip or nudists but in the public eye public nudity is public nudity.I had seen a window of opportunity to establish a nude or CO beach, nearby. That window is effectively closed.
This is why I take exception to newbie nudists who feel that they have to be nude all of the time, driving on public roads, going to the mailbox , answering the door to strangers or mowing the lawn in full view of the neighbors. One arrest or reported complaint could set us back once again
Nudity reports force out Myrtle Beach area police officers
1 resigns, 1 fired after complaint about mooning
By Kurt Knapek - kknapek@thesunnews.com
Two police officers from separate local police departments are off their jobs after witnesses reported men baring their bottoms in front of some children.
One Myrtle Beach police officer was fired on Monday, and an officer from the Horry County Police Department, who recently was cleared of wrongdoing in the beating of a suspect in an unrelated incident, resigned on the same day.
Myrtle Beach Police Chief Warren Gall said officer David Gaither, 50, who joined the department in 2000, was fired Monday because of the incident. Charles Henry Dean, 30, an officer with Horry County police since 2006, resigned with no explanation, said Horry County Police Chief Johnny Morgan.
Each man became the focus of an investigation within his respective department after Horry County police received a report that on July 5 two men exposed themselves while on the Intracoastal Waterway.
On Tuesday, Sarah Delosantos of Conway, a witness named in a police incident report, said that she saw Dean "shaking his butt and mooning everybody" on July 5 near The Boathouse in Horry County.
Delosantos said she was with four children - ages 7, 10, 12 and 14 - who also witnessed the acts.
One of Delosantos' friends took photos of Dean and about 15 other people near him who were "shotgunning alcohol," she said.
"We didn't even know Charles Dean was a cop until we showed the officer the photos and he said 'I think he's an officer,'" Delosantos said. "We know Gaither was a cop."Delosantos said one of her friends confronted Gaither at the time of the incident and asked him to stop what he was doing.
Morgan said no charges have been filed against either former officer.
He said that in the initial report the witnesses said they didn't want to file charges and to handle it internally, Morgan said.
"There's a lack of evidence," he said. "There are pictures of [Dean] drinking beer, but none of him nude, which is what I don't understand."
Morgan said his department considers the case closed.
Nearly a month before the July 5 incident a video from an officer's dashboard-mounted camera captured Dean punching Krishmer Shamar Bessent, 30, several times in the face and kicking him once in the abdomen, just minutes after the man had taken the officer's Taser and fired it.
An internal investigation into that incident cleared Dean of wrongdoing.

I don't see why you would be upset about that (other than public drunkenness, which isn't good for cops I guess), becauseI don't see how anybody would associate that with nudism at all. Everybody's first thought will probably be a couple of drunk guys getting stupid, which happens ALL the time LOL! Besides, I think they are more upset about the fact they are cops acting stupid more than anything else.
Yet I agree with the original poster.
These idiots are obviously ( to us ) not nudists, but that's not the way the media reports it.
Them that don't know will be inclined to believe the media reports, which do untold damage to us all.
Just look at what's happened to "sexting" as a result. Kids being kids now registered sex offenders for the biggest portion of their lives, just for being normal.

Curt, I understand how the media twists things (personally I'm not a big fan of the mediat), but nudism isn't even remotely mentioned in this article. I can't imagine how anybody can equate what's written in this article with nudism.

Unfortunately, it's mentioned one place in the article...the headline: "Nudity reports force out Myrtle Beach area police officers"
and more unfortunate still, most people these days read not much more than the headline. A correct and equally titilating headline (which is what the newspaper editors are striving for) would have been "Lewd behaviour reports force out Myrtle Beach area police officers" They weren't nude, they were lewd.
But Macnude, I've got to agree with Swifty on this...what does this have todo with newbie nudists? Those cops weren't newbie nudists. They were drunken fools acting in a lewd manner. The fault here is with the editor of the paper for misrepresentation of nudity and what it is (or is not)- not newbie nudists.
Stillupsets methough, damned right about that!

If we woke up tomorrow to find that nudity had been legalized everywhere, we would almost certainly hear that there was already a growing movement to force clothing back upon our bare skin. A self-proclaimed moral compass (with a degree in theology) would almost certainly lead that movement. There are those that find all nudity to be perverse, including their own.

Allow me to clarify.
If you read carefully, I meant no disrespect to the average newbie. In fact we need thousands of newbies populating the clubs and beaches to bring the mean age of nudists down to the levels of the 70s and 80s. What I have a problem with is anyone that gets so caught up in their new found liberalism that they do something to offend non-nudists and generate negative publicity. (See some of the posts on Things To Do Nude).
As nudists, we have always been a much maligned and misunderstood minority group.
The article which I cited was to illustrate how easy it is to ruin our image in the public eye though the offenders were non-nudist drunks.
And yes, Im still upset that a couple of drunken cops inappropriate nudity reflects on our image.
I hear you, Macnude. Mooning cops, hallucinating nude "terminators", unmedicated, drunken nude airline passengers, etc...all giving nudism/naturism a bad name. Especially frustrating when it comes on the heels of positve PR for nudism/naturism.
