If you lived in the US and were in a position of "Authority" (Politician) would you vote to ban civilian ownership of any firearms other than what's already banned? (This means small arms not rocket launchers and grenade launchers so don't bother mentioning it)
Let's try some logic. The GTA (Greater Toronto Area), since it has been amalgamated with the suburbs has a comparable population to Chicago. We have gun control in Canada. Nobody leaves a gun shop with a gun in an hour. Toronto averages 40-50 gun deaths a year. Chicago is over 500. Why is that? Try and stop the insults and name calling.
And to answer your question, FF, I have no vested interest in "disarming" your country of any of your weapons. I simply don't understand the U.S. love affair with the gun. We have separate histories as countries. Canada was founded on compromise. On trying to ameliorate the relationship between the French and the English. We still need to do something about the injustice dealt to aboriginals. I don't expect much from our Conservative government to deal with that issue. Keep your guns. Keep your gun death rate. But why not shoot Lindsay Lohan instead of innocent people caught in a crossfire of bullets. No logic there. And it would make for a better news story.

Soupie, you have not answered my question! You stated you currently have no vested interest in disarming our country but my question asked "If you lived in the US and were in a position of authority would you vote to ban any firearms that are currently not banned already" (given your current view point on it) And to be honest, I don't live in Canada so what the country was founded on or what is going on there really is not my concern as well. The point is that you are at this forum arguing the gun control debate, admitting that you don't understand why we embrace the 2nd Amendment, why we believe that the fine line in this country between Liberty and Tyranny is only one degree of separation away, and why people love firearms, but in the process you criticize us for having these views, don't cite any proper information to get the fact straight, and have been extremely hostile to everyone that disagrees with you.

So you are comparing a city in Canada to Chicago? Are you aware that guns are banned in Chicago? Couple that with some of the most corrupt governments in the entire country and the criminals rule the roost!

So are you suggesting that arming more of Chicago would result in less gun deaths? That's kind of a risky experiment, isn't it? And previously I have referenced infinite sources for statistics including the Wall Street Journal, the NYT, the Congressional record, etc. and those references are all dismissed as "liberal bias". I prefer not to use Fox News as a source.

If pointing out the other side being wrong continuing the debate is considered hostile then I'm guilty! But back to Chicago, when only criminals and police have guns, the criminals win. The police are neither inclined, capable nor obligated to protect all citizens, so allowing innocent law abiding people to engage in "Self Preservation" by exercising their 2nd Amendment right is a deterrent in and of itself, beyond that, the problem goes deeper with the revolving door justice system. In that city criminals rule the roost so until the corrupt government running their show starts realizing this, something can be done! Regardless, the city of Chicago is violating people's civil rights by banning guns within the city as the 2nd Amendment doesn't grant people the right to bear arms it re-affirms a right we all possess! It's a right that is Unalienable and cannot be taken away by people just because they don't like it which is what it amounts to! Rights can only be given up by the beholder by committing a felony for example!
What you would like amounts to fascism. No dissenting opinions allowed. Only one way to think or feel, right? How's that working for the republicans?
Stick to the issue, every time you are losing the debate, you resort to name calling again with no substance in your response!
