Running around naked
I have one question for everyone. Why is it that people always seem to say that someone is running around naked? I've seen nudist running in a race and they always seem to be running in a straight line. I've seen people walking around and here in the South West I've seen people moseying along. People always say it, but I have never seen any nudist running around. Have you?And another question; running around what? LOL.
I've wondered about the phrase, too. I can think of three uses. Children are said to be running around - and they really do, so I'd guess this is the original meaning. One can run around behind a partner's back. And one can run around naked. I suspect both the latter uses refer somehow to childishness.
I note that "running around naked" is a phrase used almost exclusively by non-nudists; it's always a tip to me that the speaker is not fully comfortable with the nudity referred to. There's a judgement in it.
