Extend the boundary of the nude beach to an area between the showers & street
One of the disappointments of Gunnison beach is you cannot take a shower nude. I currently will use the shower to rinse the sand off my feet and arms but try to avoid getting my clothing wet.
I have only been coming to Gunnison for 3 years, but on every visit I never have seen the textiles entering. I see this as when I walk to the nude area towards the right after passing the blue mat, I never see anyone walking to the left; so I conclude that there are very few textiles entering this area.
I think the park could build a block wall to prevent those who would be offended seeing a nude person from the street.
When I was in the Navy our ship was in the Boston Shipyard. Outside the gate was a YMCA and they required showering before entering the pool. They provided you with a towel and a small bar of soap. It was nice to use this facility and not having to take a wet bathing suit and towel back to the ship if you were planning on going into the city. By stating this I am not expecting the park system to provide soap and towels. To cover the additional charge that the park system would be taking on I would be fine paying a higher price to park.
I am interested in know how many agree with this idea and to include anything else that may cause a problem. If there is a lot agreement with this maybe we someone can create an online petition to the park system to implement the change.
Looking forward to your responses,
Wayne
I have always found it funny that they have the showers outside, in a clothed area near the road. I'm sure it was planned to keep people from getting their jollies watching others shower under cover in the change rooms. I have seen men hanging out in the change area and restroom stalls. Sad.Anyway. I have not done so myself, but I have seen nudity at the showers on occasion. I have also seen near nudity, as people roll down or up their suits to get the sand and salt off their bodies. If it wasn't as near the road, I think the false modesty would disappear.
I agree with you treeboy.. Its nice too that the beach is used by such a varied group of people. Its one of the reasons I love to go there. Hope to see you and hang out with you too some time there. Steve
Jimmy from the beach,
Thanks for your comment here.
I am suggesting build a wall to close to the road to block the vision of the current shower facility and move the "Nude sunbathers beyond this point" to the entrance way on the street. Cost is the building of the wall and fixing the existing shower facilities. I sure they plan of fixing the shower and restrooms, so the only additional cost is the wall.
Iam hoping that there was a lot of interest so that we could start an online petition. Since it's a national park any US citizen could sign. Need the assistance from a web developer or computer science guy to put it together, then those who go to gunnison could send messages to their US friends asking them to sign.
If you know people who come to Gunnison ask them to post a comment on agreeing or disagreeing
Thanks, Wayne
The only way that I know of would be for some porta shower company todonate their units with maintance to the beach, byrunning a hose from the life guard house 2000 ft to the beach. The company would have to maintain the units and assume libility for them. If this was proposed to the superintendent he or she might approve it. You can not block the rangers view of area for safty reasons. Many years ago the park service had pora bathroom trailers before the current building was built.
