Don't want to start a row or offend anyone.

Welcome everyone to the group.
Now I don't want to start a row or offend anyone, I think I've made it clear, that I believe everyone has a right to free speech and free thoughts.
I have created this group, just as a way for us "none believers" to quietly demonstrate, just by joining the group, that there are a growing number of us, who do not agree with the various religions. Here, we can if we feel the need, voice our view of the universe and everything in it, without upsetting anyone.
When I first got here, There were a few posts on the forum that made me feel like I had stumbled into the wrong place. I nearly turned around and left, fortunately I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did. Now, as we can all see, It's not a big problem at the moment. There are one or two that seem to think that their way is the only way, and find it hard to resist the temptation to try to enlighten every one they meet, but most people are happy to keep their views in their group and that's how it should be. There are probably more than a dozen religions that could use the forum to promote their beliefs, can you imagine what that would be like? Thankfully, most of us have the courtesy to refrain from doing so.
Live and let live, we'll all find out who's right, soon enough!

Have you folks looked into Humanism at all? It's a non religion and undeistic group for community, caring, compassion anda reasoned approach to the world. They are a group that can only grow, I think. Even when you don't go to church, there could still be something to bring a community together in fellowship. Boy, that sounds religious!

I don't care if one's personal decisions are based on religious ideology but a country's? When "god" talks to the president, don't look for a mandate based on good governance. The only one I want my leader listening tois ME! (Oh, and several million other constituents!)
I hope Americans have learned to let the President take care of the country and God to take care of the souls.

I beleve we already have found out who is right. The atheist and naturist comunity is who is right. When you were born you were born, #1 NAKED! #2 ATHEIST. Religon is taught. Wearing clothes is taught and in the end people are taught wrong.

The Christian Right terrifies me. they seem to have far mor power in politics then their numbers justify.

I went to the main page of the American Humanist Association website.
Just as I expected, I could read how to get involved in 4 easy steps.
I added between brackets how this sounds to me.
1. Become a Member (= start believing)
2. Donate (=yeah right of course)
3. Take action (=spread the word =become an apostle)
4. Get local (=start a parish = become a priest)
And just asking myself where or when to stop being critical.

I have always considered myself a Humanist in a philosophical sense but I had never explored organized Humanism until a couple years ago. I found a local group of humanists and went to a couple meetings. I found some of the discussion interesting but I did not like the proselytizing. I also found it kind of boring after a while because there was so much focus on what they did not believe rather than what they did. My personal philosophy is thatour world is an amazingly complex ecosystem that has evolved and continues to evolve as we do individually. Love the planet and your fellow human beings - and that is enough. -Greg

I totally agree! I'm not a supporter of any religion, and I could go into a hundred reasons why, but 'I don't want to upset anyone.' That said, you can feel spiritual (in the modern sense) about nature and beauty. The human body and the human mind can be beautiful things, and beauty should not be hidden from view.
