RE: Over 35 and in good shape

Ever see a fat vegan? Didn't think so.
I'm 58, eat a mostly vegan diet with the exception of fish, especially salmon. I exercise regularly including free weights. I'm in the best shape of my life and my doctor cannot believe how consistently good my blood work numbers are.

LOL - A slow death yes, painful, no. I'm on no medications and enjoy a wholesome life and would not trade it.

RE: Over 35 and in good shape

joburg_guy are you asking a question about some men you saw that were in good shape or do you want me to tell you about me?I'd like to hear from anybody with an opinion! Those that manage to look good naked at 40and those that struggle (like me)j-b-g,seems to me there are two issues here. one, that you think you are a bit out of shape in which case several people have responded with ways to tone up and trim down. the other seems to be that you might feel/think if others saw you nude at a nudist venue they would object or be less than welcoming by your appearance. that reaction would hardly ever occur at the venues i have been to. all in all, at the nudists beaches i have gone to, no one seems to mind what shape anyone is in. no one seems to pay much attention to what another person looks like. we just hang out, chat, have a beer at happy hour, etc. so, if you can't manage to lose the extra weight, no one at a nudist venue but you might care about that.just my two cents here...

RE: Over 35 and in good shape

joburg - ooigor is right: at nudist venues, in-shapeness is not an issue. What matters is how you feel about your body. And going to nudist venues can help with that. I suppose you can find places - especially some beaches - where people that the commercial body-culture would consider "in shape" predominate, and who are there to show off. That, however, is rare. For the most part, at a nudist venue you'll discover that people accept your body fine as it is - which in turn can help you to do the same.
We live in an advertising-heavy world, and the purpose of advertising is to make us unhappy with the way things are, so that we will spend money we otherwise would not. Part of that is to standardize and elevate a body image which is not natural for most people. Nudism is an antidote to that.
Exercise if you want to, lose some weight if you want to, if you feel you're not strong enough to do what you like to do, or if you have health concerns. Looking at your photos, you seem to be a normal, healthy guy. What are you comparing yourself to?

RE: Over 35 and in good shape

Some have trouble staying in shape because of their genetic makeup. Most of us don't. Some folks make losing weight and getting in shape more difficult than need be. The only proven way to achieve those goals is to consume less calories than you expend and engage in a moderately active fitness routine. You can pretty much eat anything you want as long as you maintain a deficit of caloric intake. Of course, cutting back on red meat and eating more vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, etc. will make you healthier. In fact you can pretty much eat all the vegetables you want with the exception of high sugar ones like carrots. Are you going to be hungry? Sure you will. Snack on unbuttered popcorn, rice cakes and other low calorie items. Don't deprive yourself of your favorite foods. Just remember to eat less of them to maintain that caloric deficit. Really, it's that simple.

You schmuck!
Now that that is over with... :)
( I love how you conjugated gym...gyming??)
I too am a little flabby and I did a bit of bike riding to help keep fit (er). But this last year I got a bone spur in my neck and it caused numbness and pain when I would do my 12 mile ride.
I gave up after a while and some physical therapy, and joined a gym. I figured it was cheaper than buying a recumbant (sp?) bike that would keep my neck straight while riding.
I for some odd reason, enjoy going to the gym and gyming ;)
I do not plan on getting crazy buff, but do want to lose some weight so it is better than sitting at home, and I have found that I actually enjoy it.
Not everyone at the gymI go to is "pretty" but they are all there to try and get a little healthier, and that is what is important.
My 2 centavos.
Stay Naked!

At 40 I was doing pretty good, riding bike 4-5 times a week. Then I got married andhad two (more) kids so I can't ride anymore and 11 yrs later I'm 50 pds heavier. Wife and I are both hoping to get back on the bikes in the spring now thatthe boys can stay by themselves for a while. We got this great new babysitter called Xbox.
