RE: A little help

"Baby" oil - is like deep frying IMHO. Someone once asked - how do they press the babies to get the oil. It's sick, but got a smile out of the person I was with.
Just saw this.
Cheri, that's a keeper. I find it quite funny too.

Vitamin B1 we will have to try it. On the other hand a fly swatter works wonders. Ouch, got him.

RE: A little help

I use Avonn skin so soft bathoil mixed 1 part to 3 of water in a spray bottle. Bathoil can be used on ALL body parts and it seems to work. Doesn't last but 3 or so hrs but you can alway put more on. The only drawback is it smells kind of 'pretty' for the men. But you get used to it. I'm not sure you want it in a pool but then probably nothing else would be good in a pool either. I use it while kayaking nude on an inland lake with a multitude of biting insects. Works well.

RE: A little help

A lot depends on extend of the mosquito problem. For regular level absolute best one is to get used to the little gnats as early in summer as possible, then their presence in normal waking hours not too troublesome. Many situations when mosquitoes are extremely aggressive, relate to northern nature, and then many situations require anyway some clothes, so protected area is considereably smaller than when spending time in nude. Southern mosquitoes ar eless aggressive and easier to repel, so very small amounts of any repellent containing reasonable amount of DEET, or some natural substances that repel the insects is fine, as well as very thin, even transparent layer of white garment. In the north even clothes may not help, as local beasts do easily penetrate a white tennis sock or a combination of t-shirt and track suit jacket in the back. Unless serious allergies, best way for protection is to raise tolerance elvel by letting them bite. Noise remains annoying and thus protecting for a night outdoors one's head with repellent helps with good sleep. The much-praised OFF gives a decent protection, but needs to be applied rather generously in the north and doesn't keep the insects long enough far enough. And - as DEET is highly toxic, applying it anywhere near mucus membrane, mouth, nostrils or wounds is not exactly a clever thing.

RE: Insect RepellentWe have a moisttowelette similar to a baby wipe here in Vietnam, designed for kids, and works better than spray on stuff,Also no sting or yuk smell, they are great. really need them around here at night especially.Aptly named "mosquitorepellent"without Deet, whatever Deet is

RE: A little help

I use Autan and find it very effective. Yes it does give a burning sensation to the genital area, but this only lasts for about 30 seconds. You will soon get used to it and it is far better than having your nuts eaten by the little critters.

Baby oil and poplar fires.

Been camping for decades - skin does not like chemicals. only use a spray, Deep Woods Off around my ears and above my eyes.
At first I smothered myself with baby oil, including the "jewels" - no stinging and it keeps even horse-flies, deer-flies, wasps, bees and pretty much everything off of you - and after a bit, they don't even fly around you.
Black-flies, however will land on you, but will die on you from the oil b4 they can bite. Greasy, but effective - I wash in a nearby stream or lake b4 dressing for the cool nights or getting into bed.
POPLAR?? - I started burning all day smoldering fires using dead-fallpoplartrees/limbs for cooking and hot water.
Didn't notice I was using oil less and less often.
One day a visitor discovered one of my campsites in bug season and commented on how bad the bugs wereeverywhere,
but not in my campsite - noticed the fire - and said
"that's why, bugs do not like poplar smoke!"
try it!

Those little battery operated work if you have them close but if you are wearing any thing that attracts it may not. I hang one from my towel.
