Newbie Couple with Question and July Reservations for Avalon Resort(Paw Paw, WV)
Greetings everyone. We are newbie couple (Mr.-45yo, Mrs.-49yo) who have decided to try nudism for the first time. We have reservations in July 2014 at the somewhat famous Avalon Resort in WV. We will be staying in one of their lodge rooms.
Since this is our first time, and we will be there in the strong portion of summer. Can anyone recommend anything that we may need on our visit?(supplies, sundries, and such). We also plan on using the restaurant on site for dinner service. However we may want a little snack from time to time. Is there a camp or general store that we can count on for these items? We plan on bringing good hiking shoes, and perhaps even a frisbee.
The wife was thinking of getting a sheer type body wrap for the two of us, just in case the insects or summer sun gets too intense for us. Are these acceptable types of clothing for the purpose of protecting against the elements when they are unbearable, without implying a desire for sexual attention? What is acceptable, since we will be wet behind the ears to nudism so to speak? We would also like to attend the Dance/Bar area in the evening to mingle. Since this is the first time the wife will be in the nude around others, what again would be acceptable attire until she loosens up a bit and becomes more comfortable?
As the Mr. of our couple, I may find myself aroused at the sights I will see. Being an adult, I know to act in a responsible manner and cover up (and think of dead kittens) until those urges subside. However is this common occurrence for first-time male nudist? How have you handled it when it has happened to you?
As the Mrs. of our couple, she is curious if it is acceptable for her to lounge about with a shaved "lady-bits" area, or is having pubic hair a "more desired" style? What is considered acceptable as far as how she should sit with her legs open or closed in more public type of nudist activities such as at dinner or at the pool when sunning?
.......As you see we have lots of questions. We have reviewed the Avalon Resort website, but if anyone could tell us more about the resort or your newbie experiences that would be great.
Also we are curious if anyone here on truenudists will also be attending the resort in July? We would love to be able to buddy up with another couple (as our experienced guides), for a relaxing weekend exploring our new found freedom.
Looking forward to your responses and our first nudist experience.
WELCOME. You are going to have a great time. First order of business is to NOT, I repeat NOT worry about anything. Nudies are great folks and all is good.
That said, the easy answers before someone else jumps in...
- Shaved is more tan fine. In fact seems to be the vast majority. I don't because I'm lazy LOL
- Erections is a very common question. The nudist environment is so natural and open that they rarely occur. No worry, just be discreet as you have already indicated.
- Sunscreen is a must if you have "virgin" butts. I burnt mine pretty good last month in Florida.
- Wraps are sometime used by women until they get comfortable (which happens fast). Always accepted.
- Don't forget sandals, tennis shoes, sunglasses, hats. Anything you would normally need on a vacation. Just don't need a bathing suit!
- Bring towels for sitting on, big beach towels for the lounge chair and regular ones to dry off after showering (outside) or swimming.
Congratulations on joining our world. Nudists do everything that others do only we do it nude. A woman sits like a lady so she doesn't try to hide things nor does she flaunt them. If a man has that rare problem he deals with it the same as when dressed. He doesn't call attention to it. Rather he sits down and maybe covers it with a towel or he might get in the pool. A nudist's motto is to be nude when possible and clothed when practicable. So if it's cold or bugs are bitting, put something on. If the sun is strong and you're prone to sunburn put on a shirt. Many people, especially here in Phoenix, wear T-shirts with the main part of the body cut off. That way they protect their shoulders from the sun. A nudist's best friend is a large towel; you should always have one or two with you. You never sit bare bottomed anywhere; always sit on a towel. First timers can use a large towel to cover the parts they're not ready to reveal to the world.Normal vacation supplies you should bring would include hats, sunscreen, sandals, sun shades, sun glasses, drinks, snacks, reading material, etc. I don't know what this resort provides but you may want to bring your own morning coffee. (I never leave home without this.)Shaving is a personal thing. Whatever suits you two is fine but going over the heavy growth with a comb and scissors to even things up, will do wonders for one's appearance and not have the clean shaved look. Many women wear beach cover-ups or wraps when walking to the pool area or attending parties. Some times they keep them on but most times, especially at the pool they drop them.Remember you are going to be with nudists but nudists are just ordinary, everyday people who just would rather not wear clothes. So you don't have to act differently with them, just be yourselves and enjoy the friendships you will surely make. As the old saying goes; it's hard to put on airs when you're not wearing any clothes.I hope this helps but if you have any more questions please ask. We're all ready to help. After your vacation please write and tell us of your experience.DesertRat

All good questions and most have been answered. Have not been there but check the website on the restaurant hours, some are limited and some are closed on sunday. There may be grills available, if not mentioned on website, then write down questions and call and ask. At our resort it is common to get together and grill and do pot luck for some meals. You will probably be invited so you may want to plan on bringing something easy that does not need cooling like chips and salsa. It would be nice to have a fridge in room or cooler. We put an small dorm fridge in back of our van and plug it in if camping. Oh yea, start doing exercises, cause you will probably be recruited for volleyball.Have a great time
Thanks All, we have learned alot here on TN in the last two months. Our visit is still about 3 months away and we can't wait. Unfortunately the location of our home in proximity to the neighbors keeps us from being nudists outside. However we get close to it by just wearing thin shorts and shirts when doing yard work. Inside we are naked as a Jay-bird so to speak. Our local weather has so far only afforded us one semi-warm weekend.

Sounds like you need to move to a more secluded home! LOL

Resort websites and reviews here are somewhat lacking in their responses to FAQs. I've been trying for weeks to find out if dining in the nude is the norm at many different state-side resorts. We were at Club Orient in St. Martin and had the best vacation ever. Nude after dinner was pretty much the norm on nights there was a DJ. During dinner, guys were nude, gals wore a wrap or shirt and left it on their chair when the dancing began. I'd say the wrap idea is for gals. No one will care if the guy is nude. The gal will most likely lose the wrap when she's comfortable being nude. Our thought is we're going to these resorts to be nude 24/7 and can't understand why anyone would go there thinking anything else. No reason to dress when you can be nude.
We're going to Carolina Foothills in South Carolina next weekend. I'll let you know what our experience is there.
As to shaved or not. At Club Orient over 90% of men and women were either shaved or very trimmed. Less that 5% were totally untrimmed. I suspect that is close to the norm. Whatever you are comfortable with is okay. No one will stare and no one will care.
