Frequency of undesirable activity

On another thread (https://www.truenudists.com/forum/viewthread.php?id=57431&action=last) someone made an interesting point about talk of perverts etc putting potential new nudists off. It made me think, but I thought pursuing it there might be a bit tangential to that topic and hence started this thread.
I've never had the opportunity to go to a naturist or CO beach. But while I would like to go there is something which puts me off and that's how likely I am to find some inappropriate sexual behaviour going on there, people engaging in sex acts, men deliberately showing off their erection, the oft discussed meercats and looky loo's. From reading various forum threads you sometimes get the idea that this sort of activity is frequent and part of life at naturist beaches, but my question is, is the discussion of the subject disproportionate to its actual occurrence? Am I worrying needlessly? What has been your experience? I'd be especially interested if you have experience of any of the beaches in Scotland specifically but the question is a general one too. Thanks

ThanksI don't know about Scotland, but here in the States, I would say the discussion is disproportionate to the occurrence. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but you wouldn't be surrounded by men with boners, or people having sex next to you. Nudists, as a community, generally shut down any inappropriate acts, before they start. The problem is... Any inappropriate behavior can lead to closure. Authorities are waiting for complaints, as a means to shut the beach down. I think most sex acts happen away from the main beach area, but yes, they do happen in the vicinity. I think you can have an enjoyable day without worry of "stuff" going on around you. Stay on the more populated part of the beach.

I can't comment on Scottish beaches as we've not been to any here, but I can comment on the two we have been to on holiday.
We prefer to be nude near the sea and have never encountered anything unsavory, but know that there may be some sexual activity going on in the dunes to the rear where its far less public. I've also read that the same thing exists on may other naturist beaches all over the world.
A a general rule of thumb, stick to the more public areas and you'll be fine.

Yes, undesirable actions do occur but I have found that it is best to locate your self by the beach regulars. They have the experience and know how to get rid of the undesirables. The pervs are usually looking for the people off by themselves to harass. They don't want to fool with the large crowds. As for the couples engaging in overt sexual behavior, they are usually off to themselves but you often see these people putting on a show on the non-CO beaches.

In my experience (25+ years) such behavior is VERY rare. I certainly would not let that deter me from visiting any nudist venue.

RE: Frequency of undesirable activity

In my view it is rare. But it is the fact that it is so contrary to the true naturist philosophy, that, I think, means we are all more vocal about it. I know I stopped going to a couple of beaches because of it. BUT that means they have won. So I was wrong. The better solution would be for decent principled naturists to go in larger numbers, make their presence felt and make the perverts feel marginalized.the problem is that infrequent inappropriate behavior can turn naturists, particularly females, away from such lications

I posted this on a different thread, but it seems relevant here also.First Time Nudist Experience was at Camp Goodland in New Jersey. Within the first hour a single male approached my wife sporting a full erection. We reported it - he was ejected. This was in 1954 - We returned there and several other nudist resorts for many years. Never had another problem.

My experience at Florida beaches is that it may occur, but is not common.
