I don't know where you heard that bit about the shift in the earth's axis, but it is utter hogwash. The north star is still within a few degrees of true north and still sits above the horizon at the same altitude as our latitude. Any significant shift in the axis would have thrown our view of the heavens into complete disarray.

We have actually been much colder and wetter than normal. Yesterday we got 3 1/4" of rain - more than we typically get in the whole month of July. I can't wait for a good old fashioned heat wave...
