Getting wiped out on the beach

Has anyone ever sat so close to the shore, then the waves unexpectinly came up and wiped you out? It happened to me and a friend I met tonight, we were caught up talking, when, all of a sudden, everything was sand and water. Another poor couple got wiped up along with us. Had to drag wet towels and wear wet clothes back home.
