I use to live 5 minutes drive from Greys Lane and can confirm shark sightings are frequent along the coastline there. There have been many attacks on swimmers and surfers (including a couple at Belongil Beach).
Just use common sense... look before you leap. The ocean is fairly clear and you can usually see dark shadows and/or fins in the water.
Belongil Beach is also renown for rips, for those not aware.
