Calluses

Who's got 'em? I've been going barefoot full-time for about 12 years now, and the skin on my soles has gotten so tough that I can't even remember the last time I injured myself stepping on something. Gravel, splinters, and even pieces of glass don't slow me down! I feel like this is a natural layer of protection that most people deprive themselves of by wearing shoes so often. We just aren't designed to strap fake leather or rubber soles to our feet!

I totally agree. The last time I injured myself was not on the streets, but home, stepping on a shard of glass. And that happened years ago. On occasion, after rough hiking I may feel a little sore, but it's kind of a nice feeling that goes away in a couple hours.

When it reaches the point that you can strike a match on your heel, then you know you're hardcore!

The soles of my feet get soft during winter and I have to harden them up each spring.

My feet are a bit tender since my stroke last year, but prior to that I used to walk barefoot on decorative lava rock as easily as walking barefoot on soft carpet.

Thankfully, no calluses or corns, but I sport a mean pair of
cracked heels which can be used as weapons when the need
arises!

Am I the only one who remembers summers like that bare footed? Good times.
