Nude in the locker room..

I am curious, how many guys in here have no issues being nude in the locker room, steam room, whirlpool with others? I have beguin to notice that most guys are covered up and freaked out is any part of their body shows. On the other hand, I notice that most the high school guys are running around the locker room naked as a jay bird.

I think it also depends on the culture one was brought up in. The gym I use, many of the Asian guys are shy about exposing themselves, particularly the Indians. I don't know how things are in the women's locker room - they won't let me in there (, LOL), but I assume it's a similar situation. Some people may also be unsure of what is "proper" etiquette. A former coworker (a Chinese woman) asked me if it was OK to go into the sauna naked, as she liked to do. I told her not only was it OK, but nude was thebest way to use the sauna (and reminded her she just needed a towel or something to sit on for hygenic reasons).Unfortunately, our society still has the wrong view of nudity.

THE GYM I BELONG TO JUST POSTED A NOTICE FOR THE STEAM ROOM THAT YOU MUST BE COVERED. IN THE EARLY AM MOST GUYS

I go to the shower and sauna nude, i change completly and dry myself in the locker room. Many men do the same at my Gym, many women to, said my wife. I don't care if some feel more comfotable to take theit shower in bathing suit!

Locker Room

I go to the FIRM in Minneapolis and most of the guys walk around naked - sauna naked - it really does not seem to be a big issue!

I find that is is funny how we men like to be all bad to the bone. But when it comes to being seen or seeing other men nude we freak. Well the non-nudist do. I have no problem walking around the lockerroom without a towel.. So what. So they see me nude and smooth. That or they think that a 57 yr old is just amusing. But to me the funniest thing is that men want women to be in the smallest bikini or the smallest or least amount of clothing but we wear long trunks and a ton of threads. We must have something we are not proud of...lol. Anyway thats my two cents. Have a great day at the gym.

RE: Nude in the locker room..

VERY TRUE! Guys have been in the military (Viet Nam or the Middle East) have no problem with casual male nudity, and neither do guys who had physical education classes in school growing up. We are in our 40s 50s and 60s. But guys who haven't been in the military or had P.E. classes are very shy about being seen naked. They are in their 20s and 30s. Plus they grew up in the "stranger danger" years, when their mommies warned them not to let anyone see their pee-pees, plus they have been traumatized by Abercrombie & Fitch models and the hypersexualization of porn on the Internet. This is good news about high school kids. Let's hope that they grow up to be "normal" and more carefree about casual male nudity. https://groups.yahoo.com/group/YMCAnaked
Thats very interesting. I always wondered why the young guys always cover themselves in the lockerroom with a towel and even go through the trouble of pulling their underwear on whyle their towel is wrapped around them. But the older guys (50s and 60s) strut around nude without a problem. I just thought that the younger guys are more self-counscious.

Nude in Locker Room

It seems most guys at the gym and especially the pool I go to are very casual about being naked and don't think anything about standing around naked talking. The opposite is true with the guys on the high school swim team, they just about won't even get in the shower naked.

naked swimmers

I am in a Masters swim league and have been a swimmer for many years so what was said a couple of comments below seems correct. Swimmers who have been going in and out of locker rooms for many years have no qualms about being naked. Many seem to relish it and will stand around naked talking as long as time allows. The gym I go to is kind of the same, not as naked as swimmers but most guys over 30 don't mind bareing it all!

I've been going to World Gym in Palm Springs for about 5 years now. It's the largest gym here with thousands of members, vast majority male. The entire locker room along with the steam and sauna are totally nude friendly. It's pretty much a clothing free zone. Guys feel comfortable being naked as they would at home so a line of guys shaving and grooming naked at the sink counter after a shower is common. It's also rare to find anyone wrapped in a towel in the sauna or steam room. There are both shower stalls and an open communal shower. Most prefer the group shower area where they can talk with each other. Of course the town I live in is very nude friendly, somewhat a mecca for nudists, which is why you don't see that many tan lines in the locker room. On another note I recently spent a few weeks in a major city in the south. I did a temp membership with a popular gym there. It was very strange to see the lengths guys there would go to in order to cover up while changing. They would never get completely naked always allowing their shirt tails or even wrapping a towel around their waist to cover their lower body when changing into gym shorts. The showers were designed for privacy and but still were never used. Most members avoided the locker room in all coming and going already dressed in gym clothes. Just seemed very odd to me that people could be so inhibited about nudity. Oh well.

RE: Nude in the locker room..

I visited a real nice Christian facility that had some gym type equipment and an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi. As the facility was used by both male and female, you had to wear a bathing suite in the last three areas. As it was a Christian facility there were no lockers in the changing room. It had the benches you typically see in a gym, an open gang shower for 8 people and urinals and enclosed toilets. I was surprised of how many went into the small toilet stalls to change the clothes. Many arrived with swim suites under the jeans or other pants. They go swimming, hottub, and sauna and then put their regular pants on over their wet swim suites. The last time I was there it was in the middle of winter. I am sure they experienced a cold walk to the car and a cold ass sitting on the cold seat in the car.
There were only a few benches but no crowds, so I was thankfulthat many changed in the toilet stalls as I spread my wet bathing suit, towel and sneakers on the same bench I was sitting.
