Drink Packages

Being this is a first time cruise for us it's been kind of fun learning and getting things put together. One can't thank the Veteran's Cruisers on the forums for their input and advice.
I figured Alcohol would be higher but then I learned just how HIGH. We are not the type to attempt sneaking some on board. No diss to anyone that practices that it's just not us.
Now I wonder just how many drink packages to pre-buy with being off the boat on excursions ect. Can additional drink packages be purchased once on board if I don't get us enough?

RE: Drink Packages

We are not big drinkers, so we just pay as we go. But as far as I know the drink packages are just a daily rate per person per day for all drinks up to a certain level (multiple soft drink and alcohol levels). It isn't like a coupon book for drinks. Having said that, you can start a drink package later than the first day. You could pay as you go until after we've been to all the ports, then get the package for the last couple of nights (unless they shut off the signups after a certain number of nights). What you can't do is only buy the package for certain days (like sea days only).
A really good way to learn the ins and outs of every cruise lines drink packages (and lots of other stuff) is to check outcruise critic. They have individual boards for each cruise line and drink packages come up as topics often. We even have a roll-call thread for this cruise there that I started (I'm JohnnyCruiser on their site). Several of the BN board regulars are also active on this roll-call thread.

RE: Drink Packages

Someone on the bareharbor.com forums said they had talked to someone directly from the cruise line who said that with a drink package, there was no limit to how much you could have in a day. Just that you can only get one drink at a time from the bar and at Coco Cay. Hopefully this is true.
