Frustrated Nudist, "guitarist"

HI all......I'm a 52 yr old just beginning guitar lesson. Actually been taking them since Sept. I have learned a few chords so far but cannot plya 1 song yet. I want to learn badly, but thinking of quitting. I;m retired, have a ton of free time and i do practice, but I dont see me ever getting it...........
I Love Santana, really aspire to play Samba Pa Ti.......I know thats a long way off for me.......does anybody have any advise for a beginner?
Thanks,

Paul

RE: Frustrated Nudist,

If you learn the G chord, C chord and D chord, you will learn to play a lot of songs. Other thing that helps alot is to buy the music book of your favorite artist.

RE: Frustrated Nudist,

I know this is a bit old, but in case you still are looking for advice...I have been playing for more than 40 years. I first started with a chord book...and then learning a few basic songs that I liked. Once you can actually play something, you build your confidence up. I would start with one easy song that you like. Practice it until you can do it in your sleep. Then learn another, but with different chords. You want to make things feel natural, not forced. That's why I think learning yourself would be more fun and productive. Nothing wrong with lessons, if that helps. Or learning theory, if that helps. Personally that hinders me...but that's me. The key is to make if fun, not work.
