first trip
Retired Fire Captain here. Long time visitor to SXM. We always stay at Club O but know the island fairly well.
What would you like to know?
You are staying on the Dutch side but going to Orient Beach for sun and fun. Your wife isn't a nudist but is willing to give it a try? Need to know a bit more about what you'd like info on with regards to Orient Beach, nudity on OB and the island.
More than willing to help and answer any questions. :-)
My wife and I first went to SXM in August 1994, and have only missed 3 years since :). We went to Club Orient's Beach, from where we were staying atthe St Tropez hotels down the beach. She at first kept her bottoms on, but went totally naked in about an hour, when she went into the water and never wore them again. If you wife is uncomfortable at first, sit in the back rows, close to the Papagayo Restaurant. The Cruise Ship People usually do not walk that far up the nude beach. She felt comfortable there, with most everyone else around us nude.We now sit by the water :) p.s. that is her picture on the Main page.....
Well, I am back from my first trip to St. Martin and I loved it. So it was great and went on Orient Beach twice. The first time was with wife (non-nudist) we were on a tour and had an hour stop there. Got some chairs and stripped down. Wifejust sat there and watched. She that she was not uncomfortable she just didn't see the enjoyment by it. On one side was a couple from New Zealand and the woman just started to talk to the wifeand the other side was a couple from Florida who were staying at the same resort we were at. I walked up and down the beach surprised on the amount of clothed people but hey didn't care. So aftera hour wehad to leave. But she let me go by myself the next day. So took a taxi up there and got there at 8 theyhadn't even put the chairs out left "island time" lol. So after they got step up got a chair and were there most of the day. Met a cool French man. Who satand we talked for hours about life and jobs and such. Interesting thing that his wife wasa non-nudist too. Cant wait to go back again. Till next Orient Beach.
Glad you enjoyed St. Martin. We've been living in St. Martin/Anguilla for 10+ years, always great times on the beaches. On your next visit, maybe try Baie Rouge or Happy Bay? They are much quieter and less intimidating for new nudists than Orient Beach. At Baie Rouge, you could walk down to the end and strip off in a very quiet just you kind of place and maybe your wife can get more comfortable that way? Orient Beach is also marketed by the cruise lines as a day trip so you get a lot of gawkers there which can be very uncomfortable for new nudists. If you have different beach choices on your next visit, try to do Orient Beach onlow/no ship in port days. Happy Bay is a beautiful beach as well, you can go nude there during the week and there is amazing snorkeling in the rocks there. There is also Cupecoy Beach, which is a beautiful beach on the Dutch side. Danny has a beach bar there and makes great rum punch. A bit hard to find, and it is more adventurous/playful than nudist so might not be a destination for you two until your wife is more comfortable.Enjoy give a shout out on your next trip. We're in Anguilla and have a private villa with pool to hang out naked and could show you around the island.
We went to Happy Bay for the first time in February. Complete opposite from Orient... not built up at all. We came in from the Capt. Alan (formerly the Peggy & Paul) nude charter around SXM, so we had to wade into shore. There are rocks to be careful of. You can see them wading out from shore but not so much wading in. The 20 of us from the charter more than doubled the population of the beach for the 2 hours we were there. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded nude beach this is it.
We also visited Happy Bay one day last Feb. We parked at Friars and hiked over the hill. It was a bad day for us, Danny had no food, drinks or lounge chairs for rent, but we made the best of it. It was not crowded and there was a group of nudes at the Friars end of the beach working on the all-around tans. Life is good.
Love Happy Bay! We were there in Feb also :) were you guys part of the nude cruise that came there for two hours on the little boat? Might have been there at the same time lol.
Yes! We were on the Bare Necessities nude cruise and most of the 20 on the two boats doing the around SXM charter with us were from that cruise, too. The water around St. Martin was kind of rough that day, especially at Oyster Bay where we started/ended the trip. But it was still fun to spend the day nude cruising around the island and stopping at a few isolated beaches. Much more fun than spending the day at Orient Beach with the lion's share of the 2100 nudists on our cruise plus the few from each of the other 6 ships in port who wanted to see the nude end of the beach. We went by but didn't stop. Four rows of umbrellas and chairs from Papagayo's Restaurant all the way to the rocks at Pedro's. Ironically, the clothed part of the beach was actually kind of deserted. Once the nude section hit critical mass, that is where everyone wanted to be!
We still can't wait to get back to Club Orient, though. 28 more days until we are back for a week of no worries!
