Ive seen it happening on some FB naturist sites. A women comes along and men will pounce on them with comments that make them feel like they're on the strip tease stage. No wonder they don't stay around.
I'm middle aged man, at 51, but got here quite a bit differently than most. Never married and no children. Just a woodsman and farmer of sorts, logging, sawmilling, mechanics and inventing at times. Put together a crude foundry and machine shop. Started a trucking company with my brother and it's growing slowly. But found I don't like driving, like the woods and gardening too much. Besides naked time on the road is terribly limited, only in the bunk at night. I missed it bad. Plan on going into raising produce more. (which means more time naked working in the small fields and gardens on my mountainside.) I am working on inventing stuff that will make the trucking pay better.
Men tend to operate a little more toward the physical realm, and women a bit more on the emotional side. Does that make men more attracted to naked life? I'm sure there are many aspects.
For one thing, our society was way more open to male nudity - even in the US - until the last few decades. Shame and fear came in, freedpm went out.
Now we have a much more puritanical approach to all things body or sex rlated.
And more porn than ever.
So older men are more accostumed to thr concept of non sexual nudity and nude activities, especially with all male settings.
Aside from that, I would guess there are more older folks because most people arent able to let go of the insecurities and hsng ups until they are pretty far on in life. At a certain age, you see life a lot more clearly a toss off a lot of your tolerance for the bullshit. The clothes probably come off about then, too.
A visit to Spanish beaches shows that those naked tend to be under about 35, and contain almost as many women as men. British are amongst them. At 64 I will be amongst the oldest of the naked people on a Spanish beach.
Yet come home and where are they? Not in the naturist clubs I know of, which are middle aged to old and predominantly male. Is there something about the naturist club way of doing things that puts those who are younger off, especially females?

I just turned 40 and personally believe I have gotten to a point that I want to not care what other people think anymore. Growing up there are so much expectations so you tend to be in line with social norms. Then at 40 you should be all set, right? Well that expectation stars to fade as you approach 40 and you look to older males for examples. And ( clothed or not) older men tend to not care what other people think and just live there life. So that is when nudism become a well why the hell not kind of thing. On the other side women have even more expectations on how they act and how they look. So they have even more layers to go against then men. So I am always in awe of women nudists ( young and old) that have found a way to ignore those expectations and be themselves. In writing this I realize that I want to know more people that can live their life free from those rules. Like I said great topic and these are just my thoughts.
Perhaps it is because we have the chance to retire, or not have to work so many hours, or the fact that we are totally comfortable with ourselves and are finally in a position where our private life cannot cause problems with our job.
