Going barefoot in the garden is good for you on so many levels. As you mentioned, the tactile feel allows you to sense things first before they get stepped on and crushed. Also, the ground has a slight negative charge to it and when we put our bare hands or feet on the soil our body soaks up a whole bunch of those electrons that act like anti-oxidants. As a modern society, we tend to spend out time insulated from the earth when we walk in shoes, drive in rubber tired cars and live inside on carpet and linoleum. This is often called "grounding" or "earthing" if you want to do your own research.

Just curious ... is being barefoot a pre-requisite to being a full fledge nudist? Of course you will see nudists wearing some sort of footwear at clubs and resorts. Rough, hot pavements, sharp rocks, branches, twigs, dog droppings, auto fluids ... there are many things on the walking surface that you'd need footwear to protect yourself from. If you don't like or want to wear footwear ... that's a personal choice but it sure doesn't make one naked person that only goes barefoot anymore a nudist than the one that happens to wear footwear from time to time.;-)I don't think so - like you said, it's a matter of personal choice. If the walking surface is uncomfortable for me I have no problem putting on the sandals.

I just like the feel of the loose soil between my toes. It is s simple pleasure and it does cause you to feed lightly when walking through the garden

I love to do my gardening and to walk naked and barefoot. But I don't want discomfort to spoil my enjoyment so will wear some footwear on a rough surface or if there are thorns around. Secure footwear is also sensible when climbing - whether its a ladder, a steep slopeor rocks.
