Help Me Decide, My Project Is Almost Over
Okay folks, I have narrowed down my choices of Shower Towers to two. To be honest, I really do not need body sprays since I live 100% off grid, I have to haul my water in to my cistern, so I take quick "ship showers" to conserve water and therefore, using the body spray is a luxury I could not afford. However, the criteria I did use was the following:
1) No rainfall showerhead. Again, I need to conserve my water, and I need the force of a stronger head to rinse quickly.
2) Aluminum, fiberglass or Acrylic over fiberglass materials.
3) Pre-plumbed and easy installation. I am mounting this on the wall directly adjacent to the hot water heater.
4) Attractive and modern in appearance, but simple.
5) Would prefer a thermostatic valve to get that perfect mix of warmth without wasting water.
6) Because I take ship showers, it needs to have an on/off switch for when I lather up and not waste water. A thermostatic valve allows for this.
So, with that in mind, I had pretty much decided on this shower tower by Aston (Follow the link and see): https://www.amazon.com/Aston-SPAP120-Acrylic-Shower-Rainfall/dp/B007Q3UR8O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427224622&sr=8-1&keywords=Aston+SPAP120
It is obviously what I am looking for, albeit that when I first started my project, I would have been satisfied with a simple valve, pipe and shower head. This shower tower has room for shampoo and soap, has the thermostatic valve, has a head I can change out if I want to, and is within my budget, even though I had planned on something much more basic when I started. Then, I saw this shower tower made by AKDY. It is a LOT more basic. It has a simple shower head with no adjustment of spray (which I can easily replace), no thermostatic valve, but it is only $99.00!!! Follow this link and compare it to the Aston: https://www.amazon.com/AKDY%C2%AE-Shower-Panel-Massage-AZ-PV1/dp/B00U6PQIZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427224982&sr=8-1&keywords=AKDY+AZ-PV1
Obviously, at $265.00 price difference, I have to consider the cheaper model. That is a huge jump. The AKDY meets and exceeds my original desire to have a basic system that looked good, and therefore, I would be satisfied with it, but it also does not have a built in soap or shampoo tray, and is made of PVC.
So what do you guys think? Be satisfied with the cheaper model since it meets my original needs, or splurge and get the more atrractive and more functional model? I want to place my order by the end of next week, so I can install it and be enjoying it by Easter Sunday, so everyone who reads this, please give me your opinion. Thank you in advance!!

For what's it worth man, after taking a look, I'd stick to your original plan.
It's what you wanted to begin with, and it saves you money.
you can always buy a simple, shower caddy that hangs off of the shower head pipe for your shampoo and soap.

If the one you really want is within your budget ... then go with that one. I've found that if you settle on something because it saves you a little money, you may be satisfied but ... not happy! Life is too short ... not to be satisfied and happy! Go with the first one!
;-)
Nah ... not yet but it's still something I'd like to do. My wife is really hitting the exercise routine hard and got me into it as well. As soon as we are in better shape, we'll start our hiking trail exercises and excursions. I think you'll find you've made the right decision on the shower. Enjoy it!
:D
Too bad Don. It'll happen ... have faith! :D
I was having trouble with my outdoor shower. I was only getting hot water and I have the hot water heater set too high ... easy fix, lower the thermostat. The outdoor shower water heater is in the BBQ island and not that easy to get to (design flaw). So ... we did a little landscaping, the other day, added privacy and while sitting naked on the patio ... I say to my wife ... I gotta get that shower figured out and fixed so we can take warm outdoor showers and not HOT!
Like in many cases, I felt my deceased father in law's hand hit up side the back of my head and telling me ... "check that area for a closed valve." I got up off the chair, got down on my knees, open the storage area door and BAM ... there's a valve that was closed! We now have both hot and cold water so we can regulate the water temp. Outdoor showers the last two nights! :D ... Thanks Dad! :D
