Unfortunately here in the state of Georgia there have been sting operations around Lake Lanier with cops closing the public restrooms at boat ramps, hiding and then charging the men with public indecency when they step into the trees to pee.
Most public toilets here are provided by the councils. If they were closed the newspapers would have a field day. If it was done deliberatelyto force men to pee in the bushes and then arrest them for indecent exposure the councillors would be voted out of office. Anyhow a man peeing behind a tree or wall would not be had up for indecent exposure. As I said above there are occasional public toilets where men are intended to pee with their backsin full public view. We just zip up before we turn round.
When on a long journey I often drive naked. Sometimes I need a pee. I pull into a side road pull up and nip round the other side of the car for a pee. There is a tradition that a traveller can pee against his nearside wheel. I guess your police would have a field day, especially as I'm naked. So far I haven't been caught.
you have to remember over here in the states we have a bunch of prudes running our government, of course these same prudes time after time get caught up in some sex scandal and than have to resign only to be replaced by another prude.
Olly, I've never seen a portable urinal here in the US, but have seen them in Paris. Even at a venue where lots of men are drinking beer, they will have lots of single person portable toilets, usually with a urinal inside. You step in, close and lock the door.
As an American, the first time I used one was a bit disconcerting. It was at a street fair, and just slightly off the street where everyone was walking. The urinal was in full view of hundreds of people. I got over it and pissed anyway.
Those urinals are very practical. It sure beats having to wait in a line for a toilet just to pee.

Agreed....and they go to towns (like Boulder, CO) that have fun traditions like WNBR and Naked Pumpkin Run and they run for office, then change the laws to prevent all that fun. Boulder WAS weird, but sadly it is no quite like it was. The prudes use democracy to their advantage. What I've noticed is that the people that want freedom and want to let people live their own lives often don't run for government offices that tell people how to live their lives. That's how the prudes get into office. More of them running and their goal is to tell others how to live their lives. The result...they squashed both the WNBR and Naked Pumpkin Run.
I'm not happy about it. As a protest, WNBR should be permitted in Boulder without the risk of being arrested. It generally protests reliance on fossil fuels and the perception that nude is lewd....and Boulder government has passed legislation that killed the WNBR, specifically what WNBR protests against. Well done Boulder government. Brought shame to the city.
When the arrests are made, do the men go to jail? From what I have read about your penal system in the USA it is privately run and in order for the system to make money the jails have to be full of prisoners. When I read about this post of arresting men urinating and then charging them as pedifilesI thought of the articles I had read about your system and couldn't help wonder if these men are part of the quota for keeping jails full. Does anyone know?
