Nudist Movies Of The Sixties

I have recently watched three nudist movies from the 60's. While they could be classified as exploitation simply because of nudity at that time they do show nudism in a positive though rather simplistic manner. The nudists depicted are all young, hard-bodied and with few exceptions in the first two, female. The first two ***Blaze Starr Goes Nudist*** (1962) and ***Diary Of a Nudist*** (1961) go to great pains to ensure that no glimpse of genitals is possible. Newspapers, large hats, beach balls and even shorts are used strategically to ensure this. The third and longest movie ***The Raw Ones*** (1965) complete with a very moralistic sound track, was the first nudist movie to show full frontal nudity and did have a 50:50 ratio of males and females. What do members of TN who have seen these movies think of them and their depiction of nudism?

You mention some interesting sounding films which I will try to find. I have discovered that ***The Raw Ones*** can be viewed on the internet in four segments for a total of 75 minutes.

I've seen "The Raw Ones" and it's OK for it's time. Still pretty good.
Looked for "Garden of Eden" but haven't yet found that one.

I did note that it seems back then "nude" meant nude much more-so than today.
Today, "nude" seems to mean sarongs, paint, and a variety of adornments.
Kinda wish I'd discovered the social outlets back then, as I'm just a bit more comfortable
in a nude nudist environment.

ok, not a "nudist" movie but the chick riding the motorcycle nude in the flick "Vanishing Point", 1971 with Barry Newman...I'll never forget that scene

I have recently viewed "Educating Julie".

A timid college student, Julie, is assigned to write a research paper on
"Nudity in the 1980's" She and her boyfriend, Steve, visit several
nudist clubs in England, the south of France and in Florida to learn
about why people like nudism.

Made in 1984 and a length of 1 hour 40 minutes. It is a bit slow starting and with a rather weak plot as far as the boyfriend goes but very worth while watching and nudist positive.

nudist movies

I have several of those movies that you mentioned. I also have another one called "Nude on the Moon" which was shot in the 1960s in Coral Castle in Florida. I also have a movie titled "Have Figure, Will Travel" and "Gentlemen prefer Nature Girls". The nudists have participated in these movies where not great actors. The movies tend to be campy but enjoyable.
As for the reason that these movies did not film genitals, it was because it was not until the mid or late 60s (I forget when) that the Supreme Court ruled that genitals were not obscene in terms of being able to be displayed in movies. Prior to that, movies that displayed genitals were considered to be obscene and thus were only shown in stag films.
Since the producers of these films wanted to make a return on their investment, they filmed their movies carefully to avoid displaying genitals. One of the facts about these movies is that with a few exceptions most of these movies were produced by non-naturists which is why they tended to be exploitive.
If you want to learn more about nudists / naturists films, you should visit the Bare Oaks Blog. They have a podcast on naturism and the second episode they had Mark Storey talk about the history of naturist films.
