Assateague island
Headed to Assateague National Seashore for Memorial Day camping into Tuesday. Anyone have an update on the Rangers patrolling or ticketing nude sunbathers on the far north end of the beach? The latest report I've been able to find is 3 years old and it says that after a 30 minute hike past the main beach into the deserted area, you're free to disrobe. I've mostly heard that as long as you cover up when rangers or textiles come by, you won't be bothered. This is in contrast to the reports from the late 90s/early 2000s when they were actively trying to catch and cite nudists on the beach. I'm going to scope it out and report back, but just was wondering if anyone has been there recently and share some tips.
Will definitely report back. I'm just afraid that I won't get an ideal scenario since it will be a major holiday. There will probably be more people and more rangers I would assume. A photographer that used to shoot me used to photograph other models nude there, but that was about 5 years ago. He said he never had an incident and that there were many others there nude too. His only advice was to keep walking north until you see the naked people. Others have said that as long as you stay out of the dunes and cover up when clothed people and park rangers approach, then no one will bother you.
I was there about, hmmm, three years ago. There's a sign that indicates no nudity but that is right near the main beach area. We didn't walk too far and remained clothed but I have heard that, yes, when you walk pretty far away from the main area it's smooth sailing. Main thing - don't be arrogant or make bad choices. :-)
Thanks for the update. I'm excited to find out for myself. I'll probably take the hike early Tuesday morning so there may be no one out there, in which case I'll have proven nothing. But that means I'll have the beach to myself so it's a toss up.
I have been going to AI for more then 40 yrs,it was roughly about 10 yrs ago that they shut down the nude beach area. its NP area. but the state sends there pk rangers there to patrol., the state of MD forced the NP to close it down. the ST PK glasses the area from there building . if you go to far north then you have . the people on the jetty ,looking threw the glasses on the jetty . think cel phone .you can get away with a thong , an that is considered , ok . many times the state park ranger will park up north, they close a lot of that area , for the nesting pipeing plover , no foot traffic . most of the beach is closed down this time of yr for the birds .I personal go on the drive on beach, in the NP 4wh drive , I camp in the park, for a couple of wks . spring an fall , some times summer . you must get a permit for the drive on area , ranges from 90 to 150 dollars day time permit is 90 over nite is 110 an camping in the bull pen is 150, must be self contained , go on there site an you can read more .there a little over 12 miles of beach to drive on with an 146 limit to traffic . most stay north of the bull pen it is at the 21 km marker , beach starts at 16 km .I belive its like 34 or 35 km long, lot of open area , , np rangers patrol it about every 4 to 8 hrs , depending if it is a holiday. we had a group of us that where nudest, an would stay together cook out have some drinks , an yes fish naked , lot of fun .. take turns glassing the beach for rangers , you can see a long way . some would go to the end of the drive on area , an walk south across the VA line , there was nobody there . lot of dunes an peaceful. if you would like to visit me when i'm there shoot me a message. I can give you some dates . I have an rv lol that only sleeps 3 , 4 if you like it to be tight . you can put a tent up on the same site as the rv , but your car must go to the parking lot , only 2 motor vechicles per site , 2 tents per site , I tow a jeep to go on the beach
